The Hospital of University of Pennsylvania is seeking a Stroke Data Specialist - Part Time. This role is heavily remote but must remain flexible and easily accessible to come into the office for meetings, surveys, and other responsibilities as required

Summary:

  • The Stroke Data Specialist is responsible for developing and maintaining the Stroke clinical databases, including the AHA Get with the Guidelines Stroke database, with a primary focus on data abstraction, data integrity and data validity. The Specialist will utilize medical records, analyze patient outcomes and best practices to plan and initiate process improvement, and will also be responsible for the external data submission aligned with obtaining and maintaining accreditations, certifications and awards for the Stroke program. The Stroke Data Specialist will work in collaboration with, but not limited to the following: Hospital Stroke Program leadership, Hospital leadership including Quality and Patient Safety, Stroke Departments including Neurology, Neurosurgery, Radiology and Emergency Medicine, and the Neuroscience Service line.

Responsibilities:

  • Patient identification/Abstraction: Actively identify Stroke patients admitted to (or occurring within) the hospital on a recurrent basis.Data Integrity: Collaborate with other Stroke data abstractors to align around operational definitions and establish processes to optimize the quality and reliability of data. Responsible for timely external clinical data submission and content oversight. Monitor databases for accuracy and compliance, retrieve missing data and review outliers. Support data utilization by providing aggregate data, generate reports to support the Stroke program's clinical, operational, regulatory and research goals.Performance Improvement: Work in partnership with the hospital Stroke Coordinator, Hospital departments and Service line to assist in developing processes for implementing and evaluating interventions to improve quality and clinical outcomes. Participate in hospital based quality and safety initiatives such as M&M, UBCL/CET, Service line population / disease based teams.Integration/Data Dissemination: Report outcomes, opportunities for improvement and best practices to providers, staff and hospital committees. Assist CEQI in any external reporting requirements to ensure outcomes reporting is aligned with internal performance. Assist in data preparation, presentation for the Comprehensive Stroke Survey, and data monitoring for TJC Evidence of Success, when applicable. Support data mining efforts for provider research, M&M and Grand rounds.Optimization: Actively participate in efforts to optimize current workflows, gaps around concurrent patient identification, discrete and accurate data capturePerform other duties as required by the organization:a. Monitor AHA guidelines for updates and changes. Communicate new requirements to faculty and staff b. Participate in external discussions with peer organizations and regulators to determine optimal methods for data processing, reporting and organizational responsec. Other necessary duties as assigned

Credentials:

  • Registered Nurse - PA (Required)
  • Stroke Certified Registered Nurse preferred

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)
  • Education Specialization: Medicine, nursing, or other healthcare related field Equivalent Experience: •And 3+ years Acute care clinical experience. Experience with Stroke population preferred •And 1+ years Experience analyzing clinical data from medical records. Examples include manual chart abstraction, review for data validity •1+ years Experience in Quality Improvement/ Process Improvement.Examples include identifying trends to define a problem, identifying key stakeholders and root cause. Assisting in developing and measuring improvements to understand impact.
