Position Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide daily supervision and scheduling for structures and other miscellaneous highway construction crews and subcontractors

• Oversee field personnel, daily/weekly schedules and overall operations

• Planning and coordination of construction activities, including work with other company Superintendents and subcontractors

• Coordinate equipment, trucks, and crews to maximize efficiency

• Assist Engineers and Estimators as needed, and in the pursuit of new or additional work

• Attend project related meetings to discuss progress and public impact

• Manage on-site construction-related functions with regard to safety, budget and schedule

• Display leadership to meet the company values and objectives

• May assist with survey and field layout

• Promote and enforce the company's safety program so that company safety objectives are achieved

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Competent in reading and understanding civil construction plans, drawings, and specifications

• Knowledge of project budgets and manage personnel and equipment efficiently

• Experienced in scheduling, ordering, field supervision, safety management, quality control and budgeting of all phases of civil construction

• Experienced using project management and/or construction software

• Strong decision-making skills

• Knowledge of OSHA Standards

• Good math skills; and familiar with DOT regulations and standards

• Excellent communication, organizational, supervisory and planning skills required

• Demonstrate a safety-first attitude. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures.

• Strong leadership skills and supervisory skills: assigning, directing and inspecting work, scheduling, rewarding or disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving conflicts on large and complex projects

• Ability to work nights and weekends when necessary

• Willing to travel and work away from home when required


Position Requirements

? Physical Demands:

• Occasionally lifts and/or moves objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

• Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach and grasp with hands and arms.

• Bend, stoop, kneel, reach, squat twist, and climb heavy equipment several times throughout the day, and balance at high heights from ground level

• Working around large construction equipment and be safety conscious

• Must be able to hear and comprehend oral communications in a noisy environment.

• Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Education / Experience:

• A High School diploma or general education degree (GED) and ten (10) years of experience in the field of major heavy/highway or bridge construction, concrete; ; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or similar field is preferred but not required

• Valid driver's license

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and humidity. The employee frequently works near moving machinery and heavy traffic, and is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risks of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Duties may require working from heights such as bridge beams or bridge caps.
