Step into a pivotal role as a Structural Connection Design Engineer at SteelFab, where you'll design the bolted and welded connections that form the backbone of some of the most demanding and dynamic structures. Working closely with the Vice President, you'll take on the challenge of designing connections that withstand gravity, wind, seismic, and other forces. This role is ideal for an engineer passionate about creating solutions that are not only structurally sound but also cost-effective and constructible.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design Review: Thoroughly assess contract structural and architectural documents to identify and clarify design requirements.
  • Load Analysis: Break down complex load cases and combinations to ensure every connection can handle the pressure.
  • Optimal Design: Evaluate connection options to find the perfect balance of strength, economy, and ease of construction.
  • Bolted Connections: Design high-strength bolted connections that can withstand the most demanding conditions.
  • Welded Connections: Engineer welded connections that provide maximum stability and durability.
  • Tech-Savvy: Utilize cutting-edge structural software (RAM, Risa, Bentley Structural, etc.) to analyze joints and connections.
  • Software Development: Develop custom design software modules using tools like Excel, Visual Basic, and C++ to streamline processes.
  • 3D Modeling: Create and coordinate 3D models using Tekla Structures, Revit, and other advanced software.
  • Shop Support: Provide engineering expertise to support the shop fabrication process, ensuring designs are executed flawlessly.
  • Field Support: Offer on-the-ground engineering support during field erection activities, solving problems in real time.
  • Value Engineering: Evaluate projects for opportunities to enhance value and constructability, delivering superior results for our clients.
  • Team Collaboration: Attend design progress meetings, coordinating with General Contractors, Architects, and Structural Engineers to keep everyone aligned.
  • Travel: Occasionally travel to project sites to see your designs in action and provide hands-on support.

Qualifications and Requirements

Major: Civil Engineering

Required: Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field. Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. Proficiency in MS Excel and structural analysis software.
