Your Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Structural Engineer to join the Mining Engineering team in Arizona. Working remotely elsewhere within the US may be considered for the ideal candidate. The successful candidate would be a key member of the engineering team, working with various clients in completing studies and detail engineering projects for underground and surface mining operations. This is an opportunity to work on a variety of both domestic and international projects.

  • Work in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations for Stantec and its clients.
  • Ensure all applicable safety codes, regulations, and guidelines are met by appropriate design and use of technology.
  • Review and analyze drawings for possible safety and constructability problems prior to issue to clients.
  • As a member of the structural engineering team, your primary duties will include:
  • Structural design and analysis to applicable codes. Typical structures include headframes, hoist houses, collar houses, conveyor and material handling equipment supports, equipment foundations, bins, shaft steel structures, and other mine related infrastructure.
  • Incorporate innovation, optimization, and standardization in designs as appropriate, considering constructability and economics.
  • Complete fit-for-purpose designs that meet the client's needs and requests.
  • Complete site inspections and condition assessments for mining infrastructure.
  • Prepare quality reports and calculation packages as project deliverables.
  • Work with designers on the project collaboratively to produce design deliverables with the appropriate level of detail.
  • Interface with other disciplines and project management to execute projects per the project plan.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Strength in analysis and design including structural steel and reinforced concrete.
  • Proficiency in use of STAAD Pro and/or RISA.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal abilities and disposition to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Experience completing inspections and condition assessments of concrete and steel structures is an asset.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently.
  • Experience and knowledge of local clients.
  • Knowledge of Civil 3D, REVIT, and/or AutoCAD.
  • Ability to lead execution of structural discipline scope on projects.
  • Experience and knowledge of local clients.
  • Ability to travel as required for project assignments.

Education and Experience
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on structural.
  • A Professional Engineering license in the State of Arizona or the ability to obtain an Arizona license through comity or NCEES record. Licensure or the ability to obtain licenses in other states, such as Utah, New Mexico, and Nevada as needed in the future.
  • 6 to 20 years of engineering, design, and construction experience in heavy industry, particularly surface and/or underground mining.
  • Excellent knowledge of applicable design codes and familiarity with Mine Health and Safety Regulations.

The following would be an asset:
  • A Master's Degree in Structural Engineering.
  • Experience and knowledge of local clients.
  • Knowledge of REVIT and/or Mathcad.
  • Ability to lead execution of structural discipline scope on projects.
  • Experience and knowledge of local clients.
