We have an exciting opportunity for a Structural Mechanics Test & Verification Engineer (Human Landing System) to join our team with McLaurin Aerospace.

The Structural Mechanics Test & Verification Engineer will:
  • Develop plans for and execute structural testing (static and dynamic) for government furnished hardware that will be manifested onto the human-rated lunar lander spacecraft
  • Review qualification and acceptance test plans, test reports, and any other associated hardware performance verification data sets for human-rated lunar lander spacecraft
  • Review and participate in test and verification of human-rated lunar lander spacecraft structural hardware
  • Assess and quantify technical, safety, and schedule risk associated with commercial and government structural hardware design, verification of structural hardware performance, and certification approach for flight hardware
  • Must be willing to occasionally travel to commercial lander providers and other NASA centers
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Basic Qualifications:

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and a minimum of 2-5 years of experience in the field or related area.
  • 3+ years of experience designing, analyzing, or building structural or mechanical systems (internship, competitive school projects, and research-based experience qualify)
  • 1+ years of professional experience with structural or mechanical hardware assembly, integration, and testing

Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Preferred degree in aerospace, mechanical, or structural engineering
  • 5+ years of professional experience in any, or in support of the following industries: aerospace, automotive, aviation
  • Master's degree or PhD in aerospace, mechanical, or structural engineering
  • Familiarity with relevant NASA, DoD, ASME, and AIAA design & construction standards
  • Familiarity with relevant industry testing standards (e.g. SMC-S-016)
  • 3+ years of professional experience with structural hardware assembly, integration, and testing
  • Experience with structural testing process and documentation (pre-test, testing, and post-test), such as test plans, test procedures, test readiness reviews, and generating test reports
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to succinctly present test results and recommendations

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
