STUDENT AFFAIRS SPECIALIST II: COORDINATOR OF FRATERNITY & SORORITY LIFE

The Coordinator of Fraternity & Sorority Life is a full-time professional staff member reporting to the Assistant Director for Fraternity & Sorority Life. This coordinator will assist the Assistant Director with implementation and assessment of Fraternity & Sorority programs and resources within the Office of Student Involvement & Leadership.

In this role, the candidate will directly advise the chapters and councils of two of the four governing councils recognized by UAB. The person in this role will assist with the planning, development, coordination and assessment of Fraternity & Sorority programs including, but not limited to, leadership retreats, hazing prevention education, fraternity & sorority awards, and new member training and education. In addition, the Coordinator of Fraternity and Sorority Life will assist with the day-to-day operations of the Student Assembly Building, including, but not limited to, managing reservations, supervising student employees, and providing building coverage.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Directly advise the chapters and councils of two of the four governing councils recognized by UAB and student organizations
  • Assist with planning, developing, coordinating, and assessing Fraternity Sorority programs, including leadership retreats, Greek Week, Greek Awards, leadership development seminars, harm reduction education, and chapter compliance
  • Assist with conduct enforcement and education of university policies and guidelines and municipal, state, and federal laws to organizations within the Fraternity Sorority community
  • Communicate regularly with chapter advisors, staff, faculty, students, and the Birmingham community regarding relevant issues and topics
  • Present leadership workshops and training sessions that address character formation
  • Evening and weekend work may be required throughout the year
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Hourly Salary Range : $18.00-$20.00

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Counseling, Education or a related field and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Note: Time spent as a graduate assistant will count towards experience requirement.

Preferred Additional Qualifications:

  • Master's degree with a concentration in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Leadership or a related field
  • Membership and affiliation with a nationally recognized social fraternity or sorority
  • Have knowledge of the social change model of leadership
  • Exemplary organizational skills with a strong emphasis on details
  • Experience in advising student organizations
  • Ability to present leadership workshops and training sessions that address character formation
  • Have excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
