Who We Are:

Join the Chemical Engineering Department to learn more about process development for chemical, petroleum, and other industries. We design, build, and test chemical processes to evaluate catalyst, complete system integration, and derisk scale-up and production.

Objectives of this Role:

  • Will be hands on with process development (focus on mechanical design aspects) chemical and petroleum processes to generate client data.
  • Participate in process design for safety and operating protocols on pilot units or first of their kind processes mostly in sustainability (CO2, renewable fuels, chemicals, recycled plastics, fluid beds)
  • Learn to utilize mechanical engineering software to design various process components.
  • Compile mechanical design data and information for fabrication.
  • Interact with functional groups within SwRI to ensure project success. Includes operators, analyst, engineers, and management.


Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

  • Assist with equipment design, quoting, sizing, and cost estimation.
  • Work with, labeling, inventory and work order generation for tasks associated with fabrication and buildup.
  • Quickly learn chemical processes to understand impact of mechanical designs.
  • Put together relevant information for fabrication and heat and energy balances.
  • Assist team with CAD to produce fab drawings, utilize Solidworks for mechanical analysis.
  • Work with fabrication shop and technicians to oversee construction and installation of equipment.
  • Hands on work in pilot plant or lab scale operation or pilot plant design and buildup.
  • May have shift work option.


Requirements:

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelors degree Mechanical Engineering.
  • Shift work required.
  • 0 years: Mechanical engineering classes geared towards stress and fluid mechanics.
  • Strong Communication Skills.
  • Microsoft suite, EXCEL, CAD and SolidWorks.
  • Local student preferred.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.


Special Requirements:

Must be a U.S. person (i.e., U.S. citizen, non-U.S. citizen national, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) due to ITAR work in section.
