The Student Engagement Specialist provides administrative support and coordination for student programs, activities and related fees, and various aspects of student programming. This position supports the Assistant Dean of Students in the planning and implementation of the College's annual New Student Orientation programs and Commencement exercises, as well as campus engagement activities and programs hosted at the College's Main Campus and Regional Centers.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain a network of peer and professional contacts among other College departments, external agencies, and other groups that interact with the Student Development unit.
  • Communicate effectively with faculty, staff and administration at all levels; handle priority communications with tact, and follow up consistently; maintain record of communication.
  • Respond to various types of inquiries and correspondence; analyze requests; gather information for appropriate responses.
  • Support the Assistant Dean of Students with the planning and implementation of the College's annual New Student Orientation programs and Commencement exercises, including related graduation celebrations/ceremonies (i.e. Academic Awards Ceremony), in collaboration with numerous other campus constituents.
  • Assist with the program planning and implementation, and attend/support all campus engagement activities and programs hosted at the Main Campus and Regional Centers.
  • Serve as a system administrator to the Pride Portal (online student involvement platform) to maintain the site and support the monitoring of the co-curricular pathway.
  • Coordinate and collect revisions and updates from various campus-wide partners for the production of the annual Student Handbook and electronic marketing efforts.
  • Maintain/monitor all the financial accounts associated with the Student Activities Fee, including purchasing, requisitions, bill payments and reimbursements, and advises the Student Finance Board to process allocations to student clubs/organizations and campus departments.
  • Complete special projects, plan and schedule tasks; collaborate with other College staff to ensure accuracy and completion of projects.
  • Ensure the security and confidentiality of all student information and confidential documents.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of departmental processes and procedures; apply knowledge to assist in the resolution of student problems pertaining to the Student Development unit.
  • Participate in the coordination of meetings or events; attend planning sessions, reserve space, notify attendees and provide materials and handouts as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, presentations, documents, forms, and memos, and compile/summarize data ensuring accuracy of content, including but not limited to proofreading and editing.
  • Provide training and assist work study students in the day-to-day operations of the Student Development unit.
  • Deliver quality customer services to both internal and external constituents in a professional, helpful and courteous manner.
  • Assist the Assistant Dean of Students in the preparation and dissemination of information relating to the administration and management of departments within the Student Development unit purview.
  • Maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment inclusive of students, faculty and staff of varying social economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds required.
  • Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with the mission, goals, and core values of the College.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One (1) to five (5) years of clerical and administrative experience in a fast-paced professional and customer service-oriented environment required.
  • Strong computer proficiency utilizing MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required.
  • Keyboarding 40 - 45 wpm required.
  • Experience with event/program/project planning and oversight required.
  • Demonstrated excellence in customer service in dealing with internal (students, faculty, and staff) and external (speakers, promoters, clients) constituencies required.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills required.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and balance multiple priorities required.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and maintain confidentiality at all times required.
  • Ability to organize and plan work methodically with attention to detail required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree preferred.
  • Experience with integrated management software such as Banner and student involvement platforms preferred.
  • Experience managing budgets preferred.
