Student Intern - NF2 Hearing Loss Research

POSITION SUMMARY:

Assist in the clinical study of Dr. Kempfle regarding the characterization of subclinical hearing loss in MF2 patients. This focuses on QuickSIN testing in NF2 patients in the MEE audiology department after they have been seen by Dr. Scott Plotkin in the MGH NF clinic or in Dr. Jungs otology clinic.

He will also take part in the temporal bone studies at the EPL Human Temporal Bone lab to investigate Schwann cell function.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Clinical: Patient enrollment, management of IRB and data logging, data analysis.

EPL Temporal bone lab: Staining and processing of human temporal bone sections, confocal microscopy.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Clinical and Lab setting.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

Must be currently enrolled at a college and/or university to received internship credit.

Prior experience in an office and/or research/laboratory setting preferred.

Should have a good understanding of clinical studies and simple basic science concepts, how to use PubMed and other online tool

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possible lifting of 10 to 20 lbs., depending on nature of chosen project(s).
