Subassembler (Full Time)
Department: All Openings, Manufacturing - Experienced

Subassembler compensation range (based on experience level) $18- $27/hr

Subassembler I($18/hr-$19/hr)
  • Drill out and rivet aircraft parts and subassemblies, including those requiring use of small, portable assembly tools.
  • Assemble aircraft system parts and accessories using common fasteners such as rivets, nuts, bolts, washers and other hardware.
  • Apply sealants, adhesives, corrosion preventive materials and other compounds as necessary.
  • Maintain the departments compliance with Piper QAM/QIM and FAA requirements.
  • Rework discrepancies as necessary.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts to improve the teams performance including schedule delivery, reduction of late work, elimination of quality defects & scrap, increasing productivity and generating cost reductions.
  • Partner with senior teammates within career path to receive and share practical knowledge for proper training to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.
  • Adhere and maintain all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.
  • Perform duties as assigned by supervisor.

Subassembler II($20/hr-$22/hr)

  • Drill out, countersink, dimple, ream and chamfer holes, using drills, drill presses, ERCO machines , reamers, and other assembly tools.
  • Assemble and test hydraulic system components, install bearings on hinges and flight control system sector assemblies.
  • Assemble a wide variety of aircraft parts such as fuel tanks, gear doors, rib assemblies, seat frames, tail cone skins, wing tips, etc.
  • Inspect and buy off own work using Piper inspection certifications, including torque requirements.
  • Ability to and willingness to receive and share practical knowledge, train , and mentor teammates within career path to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.
  • Adhere, maintain and assist teammates within career path to all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.
  • Perform duties of lower graded position within Career Path and other duties as assigned by supervision.

Subassembler III($23/hr-$26/hr)
  • Drill out, countersink, dimple, ream and chamfer holes using drills, drill presses, reamers, and other assembly tools for complex aircraft parts such as cockpit canopies, pedestal assemblies, heat exchangers, engine cowls, and seat assemblies.
  • Assemble aircraft parts requiring a high level of precision such as nose & main landing gears, flight control columns, T-bars, rudder pedals, instrument panels, inertial separators.
  • Conduct training cross training of Team Members to attain acceptable levels of performance.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts to improve the teams performance including schedule delivery, reduction of late work, elimination of quality defects & scrap, increasing productivity and generating cost reductions.
  • Ability to and willingness to receive and share practical knowledge, train, cross-train and mentor teammates within career path to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.
  • Adhere, maintain, assist and train teammates within career path to all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.
  • Perform duties of lower graded position within Career Path and other duties as assigned by supervision.


Senior Subassembler($27)
  • Build complex and intricate assemblies and subassemblies requiring critical drilling, reaming, fitting, trimming with minimal quality defects at a high productivity rate.
  • Interact with Team Members & Pipers Manufacturing Support Teams as well as vendors, equipment suppliers, etc. when appropriate.
  • Rework major discrepancies as necessary. Performs Material Review Board and Standard repairs when needed. Assist in troubleshooting parts issues with the department or on the assembly lines when needed.
  • Inspect and buying off own and other Team Members work using Piper inspection certifications .
  • Provide assistance when required during new product development, design, build and testing.
  • Acting as a technical liaison between Team Members & Pipers Manufacturing Support Teams as well as vendors, equipment suppliers, etc when appropriate .
  • Assist with root cause and corrective action of nonconforming material in order to reduce defects and scrap material.
  • Assist in continuous improvement efforts to enhance the teams performance including reduction of late work, elimination of quality defects & scrap, productivity improvement initiatives and cost reductions.
  • Interface within the department to resolve quality concerns in a timely and cost-effective manner
  • Perform audits of areas within the department as required to maintain compliance with all FAA and Piper operational requirements. Initiate related operational process or procedural corrective action , or request additional assistance from leadership or other support teams where necessary.
  • Serves as lead with the ability to guide and willingness to receive and share practical knowledge, train, cross-train and mentor teammates within career path to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.
  • Adhere, maintain, assist and train teammates within career path to all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.
  • Perform audits of areas within the department as required to maintain compliance with all FAA and Piper operational requirements. Initiate related operational process or procedural corrective action , or request additional assistance from leadership or other support teams where necessary.
  • Perform duties of lower graded position within Career Path and other duties as assigned by supervision.


Minimum Q ualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

Related subassembler experience requirements:

o Subassembler I: 1 year of experience

o Subassembler II: 2 - 3 years of experience

o Subassembler III: 3 - 4 years of experience

o Senior Subassembler: 5 years of experience

Ability to work scheduled shift and hours, including overtime

Ability to work with minimal supervision

Use of hand and power tools as required

Follow all safety procedures

Ability to demonstrate sound judgement and effective communication skills (written and verbal).

Adhere to Piper Drawings, Process Specifications (PPS) and other manufacturing instructions
