TITLE: Bus Aide

JOB GOAL: To provide assistance and ensure the safety of special needs students while loading and unloading bus and to supervise students on bus at all times

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Special Education Coordinator and Transportation Director

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Possess a valid driver's license and be able to provide own transportation to and from school/transportation
  2. Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
  3. Possess management skills to supervise and direct students
  4. Demonstrated success in relevant work
  5. Ability and willingness to work in a highly demanding, stressful
  6. Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication with students, parents and
  7. Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team
  8. Physical strength, agility, dexterity, acuity, and mobility to perform job responsibilities.
  9. Ability to use technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial
  10. Ability to follow instructions and accept constructive
  11. Ability to stand, walk, stoop, and assist students with specific hygiene
  12. Ability to transfer students, and provide physical intervention when
  13. Ability to lift up to 50
  14. Ability to work flexible hours as needed to provide assistance on special education
  15. Ability to be punctual and in regular

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Demonstrates support for the school system, its purpose, direction, and
  2. Demonstrates the ability to multi-task, to delegate appropriately, and to prioritize tasks
  3. Maintains confidentiality of any Board of Education business, its staff, and its students.
  4. Rides BOE provided transportation before school, after school, and on field trips as
  5. Demonstrates professionalism in appearance and in attitude at all
  6. Properly uses and cares for tools, equipment, and materials owned by the


  1. Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
  2. Maintains a neat and professional
  3. Demonstrates regular and predicable attendance
  4. Possesses patience, caring and desire needed to work with students; bus drivers; parents/guardians; and other professionals to ensure that each student has the opportunity to succeed
  5. Be courteous and professional at all times and maintain the ability to work cooperatively with students; bus drivers; parents/guardians; and other professionals
  6. Maintains physical, emotional, and mental stability and dexterity to perform required work
  7. Participates in professional growth and development
  8. Helps students board and exit school buses. Assists bus driver in keeping routine records related to student transportation or behavior as
  9. Transfers students in and out of holding or locomotive devices and on and off buses.
  10. Assists with movement of students with special needs as required (positioning, lifting, transferring, and physical intervention).
  11. Assists in managing student behavior to include crisis intervention when needed, including restraining disruptive or physically dangerous students within the guidelines of Crisis Intervention and Prevention (MCS) training if aide has been trained.
  12. Assists teachers and bus drivers on field trips by helping students with physical needs, maintaining discipline, and reinforcing learning
  13. Assists bus drivers in maintaining discipline and responding to the physical needs of
  14. Perform basic health, first aid, or basic nursing care for special education students as directed or authorized by a school
  15. Attends IEP meetings, if
  16. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Special Education Coordinator and/or Transportation


SALARY:

Based on the St. Clair County School System Salary Schedule

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 182 days

EVALUATION:

Performance will be evaluated according to board policy.
