Substitute Youth Summer Worker - Tutor

The purpose of a substitute Youth Summer Worker - Tutor is to provide eligible applicants opportunities to continue meaningful employment throughout the summer workdays and assist in summer work support as needed throughout the district. This position is a temporary position for the current summer. Employment for the current summer does not indicate continued employment beyond the established dates of the position.

Essential Functions

  • Adheres to any specific company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
  • Engages in hands-on activities and tasks related to the field of study, ensuring a practical understanding of key concepts
  • Actively participates in any training sessions, workshops, and learning opportunities the employer provides to enhance skills and knowledge
  • Seeks feedback from mentors and supervisors to improve performance and skills continuously
  • Communicates properly and professionally with supervisor
  • Maintains good work attendance including prompt arrival times
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, to ensure an efficient and effective work environment


Other Functions - Tutor

  • Provides one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions to students in a specific subject and content area
  • Helps students understand challenging concepts, complete homework assignments, and prepare for tests and exams
  • Reviews and clarifies assignments, instructions, and concepts covered in class
  • Assists students in developing effective study habits, time management skills, and organizational skills
  • Teaches students techniques for note-taking, reading comprehension, and critical thinking
  • Provides guidance on how to create study schedules and prioritize tasks to maximize academic success


Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

  • Skills may be required to perform multiple, complex, and technical tasks using existing skills and being flexible and adaptable while working both independently as needed and as part of a team. Skills are required to be organized and exhibit good time management with the ability to prioritize tasks and workload effectively. Acquired skills will increase in degree of difficulty throughout the summer experience.
  • Knowledge is required to demonstrate problem-solving capabilities with a willingness to learn and be open to receiving feedback.
  • Ability is required to work independently as requested and to take initiative and contribute ideas to project.


Responsibility

Responsibilities include working collaboratively as part of a team, flexibility to work in different settings as needed, and willingness to accept and follow through with directives from a supervisor. Assignments require critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Working Environment

The working environment may change with each career placement. The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions could require the following physical demands; extreme temperatures, occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and fine motor dexterity.

Job Qualifications

  • Must be 16 - 22 years of age.
  • Previous work experience, academic GPA, school attendance, discipline records, and motivation will be included in the hiring process.
  • Some career-specific inquiries or experience are preferred
  • Proficiency in common software.
