Position Overview

Internships give RGA Investments an opportunity to identify candidates to meet the future needs of our growing department while giving our interns valuable experience to jump start successful careers. As an investments intern, you will participate in an intern pool, working collaboratively, gaining exposure in multiple areas of the Investment department. These areas include but are not limited to:

Global Portfolio Management
  • Ensures that investments are reviewed, analyzed, and accounted for in a timely and proper manner
  • Builds strategic asset allocation plans
  • Works with various business and legal segments to ensure yield objectives are met in a capital- and risk-efficient way
  • Offer in on current market and economic conditions to various business segments of RGA

Investment Solutions
  • Develops liability driven investment strategies supporting new reinsurance business
  • Executes portfolio repositioning of new business through managing portfolio construction process
  • Ensures sufficient return on capital, regular investment income, while considering RGA's appetite for investment risk, execution risk, and asset-liability matching

Strategic Execution
  • Facilitates the planning, implementation, and execution of strategic initiatives across the Investment Operations team
  • Provides project support across Investment Operations and Investments assisting dedicated teams in improving processes and results
  • Develops process enhancements and/or tools to improve efficiency and effectiveness of Investment Operations and other Investment teams

Derivative Operations
  • Legal structure and compliance with internal governance
  • Transactional data integrity and reporting
  • Model input and valuation
  • Supporting new business opportunities where derivatives are anticipated

Securities Operations
  • Confirms and settles RGA's internal trades
  • Processes any related corporate action transactions and internal asset transfer activity
  • Ensures all externally managed activity is processed in RGA's trading system
  • Performs daily reconciliations of each portfolio's cash balance as well as daily par reconciliations of all positions held

Risk & Quantitative Analysis
  • Enhancing the Stress Testing framework by developing tools and processes that support risk management decision-making under various economic scenarios.
  • Assisting in designing, developing, and maintaining an advanced quantitative analysis platform for optimization and transaction level pricing.
  • Aiding in investment compliance monitoring, ensuring alignment with laws, rules, and internal guidelines, and contributing to compliance and operational risk reporting.


Responsibilities

  • Research, design, develop, and implement models and tools under the guidance of experienced teammates, leveraging your skillsets and knowledge to add value to RGA
  • Provide project support for cross-functional initiatives aligning project success to the department strategy
  • Build automated processes to improve the efficiency of recurring tasks, freeing experienced teammates' time to focus on greater value-added tasks
  • Gain experience with industry-leading technologies, like Bloomberg and BRS Aladdin, Domino, Alteryx, Wrike, RPA, and Power BI
  • Use proprietary systems, purpose-built to support RGA's innovative culture, to retrieve data and perform risk analysis
  • Enhance reporting to business lines that engage in derivative activity
  • Experience client relationship management firsthand, using software to track vendors, contracts, and visit summaries.
  • Process corporate actions, external trade activity, transfers, cash forecasts, and reconciliations in a live trading environment
  • Improve upon documentation, like the Investments Data Warehouse Data Dictionary, to better describe the source and use of data for all RGA Investments


Requirements

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time college student at the Junior, Senior or Graduate level pursuing a degree in Finance, Computer Science (or similar computer programming designation), Economics, Accounting, or related degree program at an accredited university
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
  • The most successful interns are creative self-starters who adapt well to change
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills are necessary
  • Technology savvy, programming, and process improvement/automation skills
  • Advanced skills in the following applications and/or programming languages are a preferred:
    • MS Office (Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint)
    • SQL, R, Python
