JOB DESCRIPTION:
Professional Day and Orientation: July 1&2, 2024

Program Dates : July 8, 2024 - August 2, 2024

Location : Kenmore

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Support students with disabilities who are enrolled in the Project Based Learning summer program
  • Adapt instruction, assignments and curriculum depending on the needs of the students
  • Provide accommodations and modifications for students as stated on their IEP and provide supports for instruction, behavior and social-emotional needs in the mainstream classroom
  • Collaborate with school staff, student services staff and families to ensure student's success in Summer School
  • Co-teach and/or take over instruction in grades 6 and/or 7 as needed
EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience teaching students with disabilities at the middle school level
  • Experience with and knowledge of subject matter (math, language arts, and science)
  • Experience supporting students with disabilities in a mainstream classroom
  • Experience working Summer School
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Hold Virginia licensure in special education
  • Knowledge of best practices and experience teaching middle school students with disabilities
  • Knowledge of the academic, social and emotional needs of middle school students with disabilities
  • Must be available to participate in professional development and orientation

The middle school strengthening program for Summer School 2024 will be delivered through an integrated content approach . Engineering Adventures and Engineering Everywhere is a hands-on engineering and computer science curriculum developed by the Museum of Science in Boston. Lessons introduce students to the engineering design process and emphasizes problem solving skills, critical thinking, collaboration, communication and creativity.

SALARY:
Summer School Teachers who are APS employees during the year will be paid the hourly rate or $35.52 per hour., whichever is higher. (Please note Salary earned relative to summer school employment will not be included in the employee's creditable compensation amount reported to the Virginia Retirement System (VRS).) Retired APS teachers will be paid $47.73 per hour per APS pay plan. Non-APS licensed summer school teachers will be paid $35.52 per hour.
