Job Description

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Under the direction of the Director of Environmental Services provide leadership, guidance and direction in accordance with departmental goals and objectives by ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and aesthetic appeal of the facilities and grounds.
2. Plan and carry out activities in an orderly and well-structured way. Prioritize tasks, use time in the best possible way, and work within appropriate policy and procedures.
3. Works effectively as a team member and help build relationships within it. Actively help and support others to achieve team goals.
4. Ensure corporate emails are checked daily; respond promptly and courteously to messages.
5. Assist in the preparation of work crew schedules to ensure maximum departmental efficiency, as required. Establish standards and work methods considering-traffic,-visiting hours and special assignments that must be completed in a timely manner.
6. Evaluate effectiveness of housekeeping program; study new cleaning methods, equipment and supplies, and requisitions experimental quantities: make revisions and incorporates new methods and techniques.
7. Adhere to the guidelines as outlined by the appropriate regulatory agencies.
8. Ensure all hazardous waste is properly disposed at the appropriate destinations in accordance with regulatory agencies.
9. Assign hazardous waste treatment concerns to the hazardous waste safety manager and department directors.
10. When assigned, assist in the collection and hand loading of waste, as well as the transporting of this waste to the final assigned destination.
11. Ensure maintenance of housekeeping standards to effectuate germicidal control.
12. Maintain adequate communication with staff, management and department heads in a clear and professional manner and maintain a good working relationship with all hospital divisions.
13. Regularly inspect to determine if cleanliness standards are being maintained and evaluate physical condition of the hospital.
14. Display caring actions, even on stressful situations when communicating with patients, visitors and peers.
15. Conduct regular inventory of housekeeping supplies and order same, keeping costs in line with approved budgetary amounts.
16. Read manuals to keep current on Housekeeping unit activities.
17. Maintain confidentiality of patient and hospital records and use discretion when discussing patient and hospital matters.
18. Employee's that volunteer to drive city vehicles in connection with the performance of duties must maintain assigned vehicle, tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability to all repairs and services. Drivers must have basic skills for manipulating the controls for starting, stopping and backing up motor vehicles.
19. Consult with superior regarding situations needing specific attention or follow-up.
20. Prepare work crew schedules to ensure maximum departmental efficiency, as required. Establish standards and work methods considering traffic, visiting hours and special assignments that must be completed in a timely manner.
21. Review and approve/deny time and leave requests submitted by staff with first consideration given to patient care and the operating efficiency of the department.
22. Review absence monitoring records monthly for your staff and follow the corrective action guidelines described in Operating Procedure 20-10 and 20-2 to address unscheduled absences and tardiness.
23. Prepare annual performance evaluations, review them with staff. Provide constructive direction to correct deficiencies.
24. Conduct appropriate disciplinary action with employees as necessary for infraction of HHC and Employee Handbook policies, rules and regulations in accordance with corporate guidelines.
25. Assist in the practical reinforcement of all training programs for subordinate employees.
26. Conform to established time and leave regulations and policies; provide proper notification for absences and tardiness.
27. Attend professional meetings, workshops, and conferences to enrich knowledge, and to improve housekeeping management skills.
28. This facility provides essential services. Employees therefore, must respond promptly and appropriately to all emergencies and/or directives.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Six (6) months of experience as a Senior Housekeeper or as a lead or supervising housekeeper for a large organization, such as a hospital, hotel, office or residential building; and
2. Successful completion of the NYC Health + Hospitals Supervisory Training within three (3) months of appointment.

Must have:

• Knowledge in delegating authority and responsibility.
• Working knowledge of basic housekeeping and cleaning procedures, particularly as it relates patient surgical areas.
• Must have the ability to maintain a high standard of cleanliness and odor control throughout the facilities.
• The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed bit uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• The ability to integrate age-appropriate response to the specific needs of the patients and visitors.
• Ability to multi-task and establish priorities.
• Employees
• who volunteer to operate city motor vehicles must be in possession of a valid New York State Driver's License free of traffic violations. Drivers must have basic skills for manipulating the controls for starting, stopping and backing up motor vehicles.
• The influenza vaccine mandated by HHC. If an employee cannot vaccinate, they must provide documentation from. a licensed physician indicating evidence-based medical contraindication against influenza vaccination and will be required to wear a surgical mask at all times while on the duty during the flu season.

• Environmental issues and concerns related to solid, hazardous and recoverable waste collection and disposal.
• Hazardous materials and hazardous waste storage, treatment and disposal.
• Acting effectively in emergency and stressful situations.
• Keeping up with and adapting to changes in the workload or requests.
• The Joint Commission, Federal, . State and local laws, regulations, and codes pertaining to bio-hazardous and infectious, waste management.
• Respecting the privacy and dignity of patients and their families while carrying out assigned duties.

CERTIFICATION(S)/LICENSE(S)
• Registered Executive Housekeeper (REH) Certification preferred.
• Supervisors who volunteer to operate a City Motor Vehicle must be in possession of a valid NYS driver's license without violations. They must submit a OMV Abstract Report from the State they reside in.
