Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Manager, Spiritual Health and Education, the Supervisor, Clinical Pastoral Education is responsible for all aspects, levels, and reporting of the CPE programs at Tampa General Hospital. Demonstrates current knowledge and level of expertise to teach and provide spiritual care to a variety of people, taking into consideration multiple elements of cultural and ethnic diversity, social conditions, systems, and family issues. Supports the TGH commitment to holistic and integrative care that addresses physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs. Responsible for performing job duties and implementing the mission, vision and goals of the Spiritual Health and Education Department and Tampa General Hospital.

Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates educational skills such as ability to structure a CPE program, verbal ability, ability to gather and analyze data in reports and effectively present ideas and views to various audiences.
  • Plans process and prepares for material needed for continued accreditation by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE).
  • Ensures Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) handbooks are reviewed annually and are specific for programs of Level I, II, and Supervisory CPE to ensure compliance with ACPE requirements and Standards.
  • Prepares Annual Report for ACPE. Develops and works closely with the Professional Advisory Group (PAG) in program evaluation and development.
  • Provides day to day leadership and direction to the certified educator, certified educator candidate, residents, and interns in the CPE program.
  • Independently acquires, processes and reports requested data to the Reimbursement department regarding Medicare Reimbursement.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships and or communications with other CPE Centers and CPE supervisors in Florida, seminaries, and judicatories.
  • Manages the recruitment, evaluation and scheduling of residents and interns.
  • Works collaboratively with TGH staff chaplains who provide mentoring to CPE students.
  • Able to integrate educational theory, knowledge of behavioral science, theology, and pastoral identity into supervisory function.
  • Acts as a resource for ongoing professional development of TGH clinical chaplains.
  • Maintains a clinical presence on assigned clinical units.
  • Provides On-Call coverage to the department to include crisis management, scheduling adjustments, support for chaplains and disaster management roles as needed.


Qualifications

  • Master of Divinity or equivalent.
  • Certified Educator by Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE), National Faculty Distinction by Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) Board Certification by recognized professional chaplaincy organization (e.g. Association of Professional Chaplains, National Association of Catholic Chaplains, Association of Jewish Chaplains, etc.).
  • Completion of 4 Units of CPE (Internship I, Residency II-IV) with an accredited ACPE site.
  • Previous experience in ministry, staff chaplaincy and five (5) years of CPE supervision is required with at minimum two (2) years in a leadership role in a large, complex academic medical setting.
  • Ordination or endorsement by an acknowledged ecclesiastical body.
