JOB SUMMARY

Provide day-to-day work direction and supervise to maintain steady workflow and productivity in mitigation
investigations. Oversee staff who conduct inquiries and assemble relevant case histories. Oversee and assign staff
who coordinate efforts related to pretrial client contact, background reviews, and other activities aimed at
developing appropriate records to be used in related court proceedings. Supervise and train staff in mitigation
investigations and the preparation of reports for clients. Track and compile data utilized to evaluate the
effectiveness of mitigation evidence at sentencings. Develop detailed psychosocial biographies of adult and
juvenile clients who face incarceration sentences or dispositions. Create, develop, and coordinate training
education seminars for staff.

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Science, Criminal
Justice, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Physiology, or a directly related field and
• Four (4) years in investigating and documenting social histories of individuals and families or directly related
experience
• Two (2) years of prior supervisory or lead experience
• An equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

*Degrees awarded outside of the United States with the exception of those awarded in one of the United States' territories and Canada must be credentialed by an approved U.S. credential evaluation service belonging to the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or the Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE). Original credentialing documents must be presented at time of interview.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS

• Skill in developing sentencing plans and/or accessing the treatment and rehabilitative needs of indigents,
knowledge of various investigative and behavioral subject matters that may be used to search out and analyze
the social, educational, criminal, and psychological histories of clients, and ability to use the internet,
computers, and technology for purposes of entering, retrieving, and manipulating text and other data through
Microsoft Word and Excel, Lexis-Nexis, and other software and online databases.
• Ability to utilize knowledge of the criminal justice system, the social services referral field, or local social service
resources in order to provide alternatives to incarceration. Ability to clearly, logically, and effectively express
verbal and written thoughts and opinions through the use of legal terminology, concepts, and vernacular.
Ability to clearly articulate issues and analyses in the form of written documents.
• Ability to communicate and interact with culturally diverse clients, attorneys, judges, and service providers in
various consultations, interviews, investigations, and other situations. Ability to speak effectively and engage in
a full and informed manner in group dialogues and group settings regarding social issues that impact clients.
• Knowledge of family issues and concerns and understanding of dynamics relative to adolescent and child
development behavior. Knowledge of social issues and problems facing families which impact child-parent
relations.
• Ability to enable a collaborative and teaming culture and provide day to day direction of tasks.
• Ability to perform escalated or more highly complex work similar to the work done by staff being supervised.
• Ability to effectively delegate tasks to staff and collaborate with leadership to achieve organizational or
department success.
• Ability to align team's tasks with departmental procedures and objectives and serve as a reliable resource for
other employees in an area of expertise.

Sedentary Work

Sedentary Work involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
