Job Description

Purpose of Position:

Under the direct supervision of the DON, the Supervisor of Transport/Escort will assist the Nursing Leadership Team in maintaining seamless operations for the Patient Transport Department.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Manage a team of 50 Patient Transport staff.
  • Manages patient transport department operational flow, including the EPIC Transport Dashboard.
  • Ensures seamless patient flow throughout the hospital 24 hours, 7 days a week.
  • Investigates complaints/fallouts in real time and executes appropriate corrective action(s) in a timely fashion.
  • Runs productivity reports from EPIC; interprets data to identify trends and other factors that impact operational activity and utilizes data to drive/improve quality and productivity.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to address patient transport issues and patients and/or staff concerns.
  • Prepares monthly patient transport staff schedules; allocates staff on the basis of workload, acuity and ensures adequate coverage on all shifts.
  • Assists the Nursing Leadership Team in documenting Nursing Staff unscheduled absences and tardiness.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by Supervisor and/or designee.


Minimum Qualifications
1. High School diploma or its educational equivalent; and two (2) years of experience working as a patient escort or patient transporter or relevant work experience; and one (1) year of supervisory experience in a health care environment; or
2. Associate's degree; and two (2) years of experience, as described in #1 above; or
3. High School diploma or its educational equivalent; and five (5) years of experience, as described in #1 above.
All candidates must complete the NYC Health + Hospitals Supervisory Training within three (3) months of appointment.
