Position Objective:

Coordinates the operation and maintenance of the boiler room and equipment in accordance with applicable codes and regulations. Provides leadership and a high level of technical expertise for planning and executing all heating, air conditioning, steam, hot water, and ventilation systems operations and maintenance in the main boiler plant.

This position has authority to perform supervisory duties including but not limited to hiring, evaluating performance, issuing final disciplinary actions under the review of Human Resources, and recommending discharge in collaboration with members of management and Human Resources.

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Coordinates the operation of the Boiler Room in accordance with applicable codes and regulations.
  2. Provides leadership and a high level of technical expertise for planning and executing all heating, air conditioning, steam, hot water, and ventilation systems operations and maintenance in the main boiler plant.
  3. Participates in the development of goals and objectives, the annual budget, and operations standards and procedures.
  4. Supervises activities of staff through selection, coaching and performance review, and personnel actions consistent with medical center personnel policies and procedures.
  5. Performs engineer's staff duties when needed to cover absences due to illness or leave.
  1. Confers with the Director to report activities, make recommendations, exchange information and participate in the management process.
  2. Ensures all plant equipment and machinery operates at peak efficiency through effective preventive and corrective maintenance programs in order to minimize energy consumption and maximize energy management.
  3. Schedules and supervises inspections, preventive and corrective maintenance activities within the boiler room in accordance with department policies and procedures.
  4. Supervises department employees and contractors providing services to the plant.
  5. Provides continuing education of staff through ongoing training, performance planning and documentation.

Educational/Experience Requirements:

The minimum level of education and experience for this position includes:
  • High school graduate/ GED or equivalent
  • Must have five years' supervisory experience in a steam plant with large tonnage chillers and auxiliary pumps and equipment.
  • Strong background and experience in industrial safety preferred.

Required License/Certifications:
  • First Grade Stationary Engineer license from the State of Maryland Preferred
  • Second Grade Stationary Engineer license from the State of Maryland Required
  • Universal CFC Certification.
  • Must have a valid Maryland driver's license and a driving record with no more than two (2) points.
