Job Summary

Serve in a supervisory capacity in facilitating the scheduling of all Sign Language interpreting needs within the System. Responsible for the billing and payroll for all interpreting services; coordinating services for community-based programs, assessing staff interpreters; recruiting, assessing and recommending interpreters for employment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Direct management of Model Program/Deaf and Hard of Hearing/Ability Services staff.

Collaborate with Lead Counselor and Dean of Students Success to ensure goals and objectives are being met.

Maintain an up-to-date database of interpreters, interpreters' schedules, interpret in the office on behalf of students, document student no shows, respond to phone and email correspondence and coordinate pertinent services for non-classroom events.

Assess and investigate concerns and problems with faculty, staff, interpreters, students and administrators.

Identify and evaluate interpreting resources to maintain a high quality of service.

Identify and reduce barriers to student persistence and completion by addressing interpreting resource needs.

Coordinate with vendor coordinators on confirmed services rendered with invoices.

Coordinate interpreting services requests with Counselors; receive, prioritize, review, and schedule interpreting/CART requests and confirmations in a timely manner.

Collaborate with appropriate department head, counselor(s) and educational liaison or lead interpreter to develop and implement orientations for faculty, staff, interpreters, students and administrators.

Demonstrate support of the college's mission policies and procedures and assure consistent compliance within college goals and objectives.

Perform interpretation for high profile assignments and interprets for system activities; work as substitute interpreter when needed, or when called upon for certain functions.

Perform on-site analysis of skill and feedback of interpreters with the Educational Liaison/Lead Interpreter.

Stay abreast, improve knowledge, skills, and abilities in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing industry through continuing education and certifications.

Maintain complete and accurate records on staff licensing and certifications.

Attend scheduled departmental staff meetings and participate in staff development activities and committee work.

May be on-call after hours, weekends and holidays to manage scheduling of interpreters working evening/weekend/mini-session classes.

Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Sign Language Interpreting/Transliterating or related field required

• Associate's degree with 4 years directly related experience may be considered in lieu of required degree

• 3 years directly related experience required; including 1 year supervisory and coordinating experience in sign language interpreting and assessing Sign Language Interpreters using a state/national testing system

• 3 years supervisory and coordinating experience in sign language interpreting preferred

Licensing & Certification

• Valid Texas Driver License

• Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (Basic, Advanced, Master Level certifications)

• Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (National Interpreter Certification - (NIC) or Certified Deaf Interpreter- (CDI)

Working Conditions

General Office. Must be able to perform all job requirements with or without reasonable accommodations; remain in a stationary position during shift; move items weighing up to 25 pounds; position self to operate job equipment; apply established protocols in a timely manner. Must access, input and retrieve information from technology devices; communicate with others to accomplish job requirements. May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays.
