PRIMARY PURPOSE

Responsible for the overall leadership of the Distribution Center training team. Partners with other Site Training Supervisors to create a curriculum for DC roles. Ensures ongoing development of the training team and certification process. Leads trainers in the management of training and retraining of the Distribution Center employees. Key partner in the onboarding of new employees and assisting existing staff in skills development in areas of proper lifting techniques, safety, equipment operation and process changes. Partners with Operations team, Industrial Engineer and Human Resources to ensure metrics, documentation, tools, and systems are current and following company standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervises day to day activities of department of business unit and assigned staff
• Supervise associate performance through performance planning, coaching, appraisal and disciplinary efforts
• Responsible for the leadership of training, and developing all new and existing associates
• Observe department staffing daily and make adjustments where needed.
• Verify daily that associates are on a Labor Management assignment.
• Hold departmental meetings as expected
• Communicate and administer disciplinary action to associates who violate company policy.
• Communicate with appropriate individuals/departments during the shift that my affect other warehouse departments
• Provides coaching, leadership, and oversight to the Distribution Center training team.
• Plans training schedules for the team to support the needs of new hires and existing staff.
• Coaches team on one on one training to new hires following the onboarding guidelines and checklists as needed or when staffing demands require.
• Certify trainers on training material and process.
• Develop and monitor programs that instruct new hires on how to select and palletize grocery, produce, meat, frozen food and dairy orders for shipment to retail stores accurately
• Observe trainers teaching new hires how to operate pallet jacks, forklifts, and other material handling equipment in a safe and efficient manner
• Assist Safety Specialist in implementation of monthly tips and recertify employees after incidents on equipment.
• Monitor aisles and provide feedback/coaching to all employees on techniques.
• Make recommendations for modifications to procedures or processes impacting their work group or distribution center that will maximize efficiency, productivity, and reduce costs.
• Monitor overall new hire trends, metrics and collaborate with Human Resources and operation on retention strategies.
• Interview and hire new trainers.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Education.
• Training experience in selection and lift driving.
• 3 years or more of distribution experience.
• Previous leadership experience desired.
• Expertise in Adult Learning Theory.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to work in a -5 degree to 90+ degree Fahrenheit environment (temperature varies within each department) for long periods of time.

Skills:
• Ability to create reports and documentation.
• Ability to operate a pallet jack and lift.
• Excellent verbal communication, interpersonal and problem identification/solving skills with the ability to read and write English.
• Ability to lead others and assist when needed.
• Demonstrated dedication to safety, with a history of working well with others and contributing to a team effort
• Ability to lead and communicate in a professional manner.
• Ability to partner with various teams and individuals in the Distribution Center.

Abilities:
• Ability to use Microsoft office suite, WMS, and other Warehouse tools.
• Ability to coach team members and staff effectively.
• Ability to communicate in verbal and written correspondence.
• Ability to work a variety of work shifts and schedules (length, time, weekends, holidays)
• Ability to stand for long periods of time
• Ability to create reports, metrics, and written correspondence.
• Ability to Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate (ADDIE) training.
• Commitment to excellence and a willingness to be trained in a variety of positions, demonstrating multi-skill capabilities.
• Able to use personal computer for data entry and research purposes
• Highly motivated self-starter and team player with strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
