Job Description

SCOPE OF POSITION
The Ultrasound Tech Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations of their assigned department and generally represents their department in Supervisor or other pertinent meetings. The incumbent will possess excellent technical skills and demonstrate appropriate personality and desire for additional leadership/supervisory responsibility. To this end, the incumbent will provide valuable input with regard to policy and procedure, hiring, teaching/orienting/coaching both team members and students, remediation, discipline, evaluating personnel performance, and equipment evaluation and selection. The incumbent is responsible for keeping team members abreast of current technology and service requirements. The Ultrasound Supervisor is accountable for compliance with Joint Commission standards, local, State and federal regulations and adherence to facility and departmental policy/procedure. Continuing education and local society involvement is a high priority.
The incumbent shares responsibility with the department management team to build positive work relationships among department workers in all Diagnostic Imaging cost centers. The Ultrasound Supervisor in conjunction with department management meets regularly with team members. In addition, the Supervisor portrays hospital and department goals and objectives in a positive light so as to create a cohesive and cooperative relationship with staff members.
The Ultrasound Supervisor will ensure that timely and appropriate care is delivered to patients of all ages ranging from neonates to geriatrics in accordance with quality standards established by the facility and the Department of Diagnostic Imaging. The incumbent performs all patient care and examination duties assigned to staff technologists. The Ultrasound Supervisor ensures effective communication with patients of every status and works with the outpatient scheduling office to optimize scheduling templates and accommodate add-on examinations. The Ultrasound Supervisor works with management and physicians to develop modality specific procedure protocols and to educate team members to their use.
The incumbent will act as liaison between patients, patient's family, and physician to ensure excellent communication and customer satisfaction. The Ultrasound Supervisor must communicate effectively, and will be responsible to disseminate information up and down the communications ladder in a timely and effective manner.
The Ultrasound Supervisor assists with establishing specific operational and performance improvement goals and objectives for their assigned department, and is actively involved in accurate recording, analyzing, and reporting in a timely manner the department monitors established for this purpose. The incumbent assists with planning and preparation of the Operational and Capital Equipment budgets, and ensures efficient day-to-day operations with relation to approved budgets including ordering and management of supplies. The Ultrasound Supervisor offer meaningful input with regard to work efficiency and resource flexing.
The Ultrasound Supervisor is responsible for creating and posting a work and call schedule in a timely manner. This schedule is based on equal shouldering of responsibilities by all department members. The schedule should demonstrate a work approach that maximizes workflow and personnel utilization. The incumbent will assume call responsibilities as appropriate.
The Ultrasound Supervisor maintains strict confidentiality in matters relating to patients and personnel of facility. The incumbent promotes a good working environment in the department.

The Supervisor generally works 70% of workday providing hands-on patient care with 30% of time concentrated on leadership activities with some exception.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree in Radiology from an accredited CAHEA ultrasound program, Bachelor's degree preferred. Associated credentials/registry/licenses that qualify the professional for assigned patient examinations are also mandatory. Two to four years hospital-based technical experience in related area. Technical experience and supervisory skills are necessary. Previous Diagnostic Imaging supervisory training and experience is preferred. The successful Supervisor will need to attend the hospital Management Training course within the first eighteen months of employment.
Valid and active ARDMS, CCI, or ARRT sonography certification
At least one specialty certification
AHA BLS required
