The Role
The Supplier Industrialization Engineer (SIE) - Energy Storage is responsible for the development, selection, industrialization and optimization of suppliers' manufacturing of components used in Tesla Energy Storage products using the Tesla Qualification Process (TQP). This also includes ensuring that we are successfully ramping the supply base in a timely manner to meet our aggressive business growth targets. The ideal candidate will be an accomplished individual contributor with a minimum 3 years supply chain quality & manufacturing experience who demonstrates strong, well-rounded business acumen. This individual must be willing to roll up their sleeves and get directly involved in projects and assignments as needed to get the job done. This individual will report to the Group Manager, Global Supply Management for Tesla Energy.


Responsibilities
  • Own part quality, process optimization and supplier industrialization for Energy Storage material for all points and phases in the product life
  • Support technical design reviews with Tesla Design Engineering to ensure new design manufacturability and that an effective Design for Manufacturability (DFM) plan is created with the supplier(s) supporting the program
  • Support on-boarding and qualification of new or existing suppliers with on-site assessments and evaluation of all aspects of supply process
  • Drive the supplier manufacturing plan to ensure effective error-proofing is built into the process and be responsible to review/approve Tesla Qualification Process (TQP) tasks for each part
  • Oversee rapid and effective SCAR closures for suppliers to ensure issues are addressed quickly and correctly, and that we avoid reoccurrences of quality issues
  • Interact with suppliers at both the working and executive level to ensure Tesla quality directives are understood and executed
  • Ensure suppliers have provided detailed OEE and equipment capability studies to demonstrate their ability to achieve ramp and capacity expansion plans to support the growth we anticipate in the Energy Storage business
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional partners in Finance, Design Engineering, Global Supply Management, and Manufacturing to ensure the best possible outcomes for Tesla in support of company goals including on new program launches, supplier resourcing projects, cost down efforts and on quality improvement projects


Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Industrial Engineering (Masters in Engineering is a plus)
  • •3+ years of supply chain quality and manufacturing experience in a fast paced, highly fluid environment or other evidence of exceptional ability; experience in a manufacturing organization is strongly preferred (Experience in Energy Storage or Clean Energy Technology industries a plus)
  • Experience supporting the launch of new product introductions with a background in manufacturing and/or design
  • Deep knowledge of quality system processes and methodologies with a strong understanding of statistical methods
  • Deep understanding of product technologies and manufacturing processes for mechanical commodities including equipment capability and quality control and testing methods
  • Superior analytical skills and the ability to use data and metrics in a structured way to justify business decisions and problem solve
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence cross functional stakeholders
  • Meticulous, with a strong attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and projects with various stakeholders and to strike a balance between delegation and diving in deep into technical issues when required

    • Expected Compensation

      $80,000 - $300,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

      Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
