Job Description

SCOPE OF POSITION
The Procurement Specialist I is primarily responsible for the acquisition of medical supplies and services necessary to provide high quality patient care at the lowest total cost to the organization. The procurement specialist I must have the requisite expertise to prioritize and maintain day to day operations related to purchase order generation, order tracking, invoice/price discrepancies, shipping returns, and management of vendor relationships. Promotion & extensive use of automated processes for acquisition (EDI and ERP tools) are essential to support operational efficiencies. The procurement specialist I shall monitor and communicate supply shortages and backorders along with any unforeseen vendor issues. The procurement specialist I must possess a comprehensive understanding of supply contracts (GPO and local) and promote those with the greatest value to the organization. The procurement specialist I must be self-directed, collaborative, and demonstrate the ability to use independent judgement

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
College Degree (i.e., associates degree); Educational focus in General Studies, Business Administration, Public Health, and/or Supply Chain Management, or Logistics or 10 years of relevant health care experience is required. High competence in using Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, and Access) is required. A basic understanding of supply chain concepts, inventory management, purchasing, contracting and spend analytics is expected. A familiarization with supply chain automation (e.g., Global Healthcare Exchange (GHX) or similar EDI value-added networks) is expected.
