  • Position Title : At-Risk Attendance & Truancy Monitor
    Salary Schedule: 180 Work Day for the 2024-2025 school year only

    Primary Function:


    The Attendance Monitor shall provide assistance and resources to families and students who are struggling to maintain appropriate and consistent attendance patterns, so that the District can ensure that all students achieve. The attendance monitor reports directly to the building principal.
    • ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
    • Provide referral-driven and strengths-based intervention services to children and families where irregular attendance and chronic absenteeism is an issue.
    • Work with students and their families whose attendance and/or truancy is in excess of the district's policies and procedures.
    • Based on Departmental Procedures and Michigan Attendance Laws, use necessary interventions in relation to referred students where truancy is an issue after district wide attendance and truancy policies and procedures are implemented.
    • Provide early intervention services with referred students who are beginning to demonstrate irregular attendance.
    • Research materials, best practices, and community resources for school staff on effective policies, procedures and programs in relation to encouraging regular attendance of all students.
    • Create a caseload of students showing challenging attendance patterns and implement with them research-based interventions and incentives
    • Provide students and families with needed materials to improve the students' attendance
    • Connect student and families to community resources to improve students' attendance
    • Participate on the building attendance team.
    • Provide updates to the building's principal and teachers on the progress of students on their caseload
    • Meet with the principal, assistant principal, counselor, and/or social workers who are concerned about individual students and families.
    • Make home visits when necessary to provide appropriate intervention in truancy matters.
    • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with staff, students, parents and outside agencies.
    • Maintain confidentiality of student information and records.
    • Attend weekly attendance team and student support team meetings.
    • Gather attendance data to be used at meetings.
    • Enter attendance data into district and county databases.

    REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL PREPARATION AND/OR EXPERTISE:
    • Completed at least 60 credit hours at a post-secondary college, or have associate degree or higher degree, or
    • Pass one of the The State Board of Education approved formal assessments for demonstrating basic skills:
      • Basic Skills Examination
      • A passing score on the score Basic Skills Test MTTC
      • A passing score of at least 480 on the evidence-based reading and writing section of the SAT and 530 on the mathematics section in lieu of the Basic Skills Test or Professional Readiness Exam
      • Other basic skills examination options
        • ETS Parapro Assessment
        • A passing score of 460 is required
    • Ability to work with students and staff in a professional manner
    • Proficient and literate in English
    • Demonstrates the professional and personal characteristics for working effectively with students, parents, school personnel, community and court systems; and
    • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
    • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects under various timelines
    • Highly effective organizational and interpersonal skills

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • A minimum of 2 years experience working in K-12 education
    • Familiarity with community organizations and businesses
    • Familiarity or knowledge of the court process for the purposes of truancy related issues.
