The Surgical Advanced Practice Provider reports to the Lead Surgical APP and is under the general supervision of the various specialty surgeons. Duties include: performing all necessary hospital and outpatient based documentation, ordering and interpreting laboratory tests, and diagnostic imaging, formulating a treatment plan for consultations, performing therapeutic and diagnostics procedures, first-assisting in surgery, ordering/prescribing medications. The Surgical APP will be an advocate for patients seeking services at Jefferson Northeast and assist in the overall continuum of care. The Surgical APP will be expected to practice to the fullest extent permitted under the current state and federal laws.
Essential Functions
• Basic knowledge of medicine and overall comfort with prescribing medication and narcotics.
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Strong computer skills
• Identifications of common injuries and treatment
• Proficient in drain removals and dressing changes
• Expert in wound closure and wound management
• Proficient in bedside procedures, including but not limited to: wound closure, incision and drainage, nerve blocks, injections.
• Proficient in sterile technique
• Robotic surgery experience preferred
Qualifications
Master's Degree, Graduate of an accredited physician assistant/nurse practitioner program.
AND
Experience:
At least 2 years' experience in surgery preferred.
If CRNP, must have RNFA
Certified Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner in Pennsylvania

Essential Functions
- Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson
- Performs complete history & physicals and documents in the medical record.
- Under supervision of a surgeon, will evaluate patients and develop a treatment plan.
- Optimize patients for surgery ensuring all necessary consultations, labs and diagnostic studies have been completed in a timely fashion.
- Assist the various specialty surgeons in the intraoperative setting. Duties include: first-assisting, skilled would closure, and application of post-operative dressings/splints.
- Complete all perioperative documentation and orders including admissions and discharges.
- Perform therapeutic and diagnostics procedures with privilege and competency validation.
- Order and prescribe controlled substance category II-V with an active DEA license.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary health care teams and maintain ongoing communications with staff, patients and families.
- Maintain professional licenses, certifications and meet all CME requirements.
- Seek opportunities for active engagement in research and the analysis of evidence based practice. Identify and participate in performance improvement projects. Demonstrate financial responsibility and accountability through the effective use of resources in daily procedures, processes, and practices.
- Participate in ongoing Advanced Practice Provider meetings and educational events.
- Act as a preceptor to Physician assistant/nurse practitioner students. Interact with students and residents in an engaging and respectful manner.
