The Surgical Services Attendant performs a variety of service and direct patient care activities related to the medical care of patients who are undergoing surgery, which support the nursing staff in providing quality healthcare to each patient. Direct patient care activities are related to: the transportation and transfer of patients, equipment, supplies and specimens to and from designated areas; positioning of patients based on patient surgical needs, preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative care; the cleanliness and upkeep of all transportation equipment; maintainenance of adequate inventory of supplies pertinent to the departmental operation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.

• Prepare all surgical suites for surgical procedures using established procedure guidelines for room equipment, supplies and furniture.

• Maintain cleanliness of equipment and supplies to preserve and prepare all OR suites for future use, following safety rules.

• Provide direct support with positioning of patients in supine, lateral, beach chair, prone, while using positioning devices, such as bean bags and beach chair attachments under the supervision of surgical, anesthesia and nursing teams.

• Ensure that all patients are ready for surgery prior to transport of patients from inpatient and emergency room units to ensure patient safety.

• Daily monitoring of temperature and humidity related to fluid warmer and sterile supply storage area; changing and maintaining the O2 and NO2 tanks in and outside the OR.

• May be asked to assist pre-operatively, intraoperatively and post-operatively on surgical orthopedic cases as needed.

Qualifications

Monday-Friday, 40 hours/week- 8 hour shifts

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Experience: One year previous hospital perioperative experience preferred.

Licensure, Certification & Registration Requirements: BLS certification through American Heart Association required.

Conditions of Employment

Since this position will require the selected candidate to engage in regular contact with children in the form of care, guidance, supervision or training, you will be required to meet the requirements of the Child Protective Services Act, including the Pennsylvania State Police criminal background check, the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare child abuse criminal background clearance, and an FBI finger print based federal criminal records check. The selected candidate will not be allowed to commence working until all three (3) are completed satisfactorily.

Conditions of Employment

Covid Vaccination is a requirement for employment at Jefferson for employees working at Jefferson's clinical entities or at the University.
