General Summary of Position

The team at MedStar Southern Maryland\rHospital Center has a PRN day shift opportunity for a Surgical Services\rScheduler. The ideal candidate will have prior surgical scheduling/posting\rexperience and will schedule all surgical procedures for the hospital. They\rwill function as a frontline point of contact for all physicians' offices and\rwill exhibit excellent customer service and organizational skills.

This position is PRN/As-Needed. The work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Schedules and coordinates all elective surgical procedures allowing adequate time for each procedure according to physician's historical time.
  • Obtains and enters the necessary booking information from surgeon/office requesting surgical time.
  • Attempts to schedule similar types of cases in the same room to increase efficiency.
  • Communicates special equipment, instrument and supply requests to appropriate associates
  • Refers conflicts and procedural questions to OR Clinical Coordinator or designee.
  • Obtains missing patient information, equipment needs, CPT codes and special requests from physician's office for a complete and accurate surgical posting.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education
    • Associate's degree preferred.
    • High School Diploma or GED required.

    Experience
    • 1-2 years Clerical experience in a healthcare environment required.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Ability to comprehend and follow the policies and procedures for MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center.
    • Ability to read, write and speak or communicate in English to successfully accomplish the essential duties of the position.
