The role you'll contribute:

The Clinical Educator Surgical / Procedural Services is responsible for facilitating the growth and development of Surgical Technicians in Surgical Services. This role supports over 100 employees in multiple departments across the Central Florida Division. The Clinical Educator is required to demonstrate clinical excellence multiple surgical and procedural specialties. Daily work includes but is not limited to; develop

• Utilizes principles of education, adult learning for scrub technicians, bases all activities on the professional growth pathway of the Novice to Expert continuum. Integrates current published research and literature into all learning activities. Maintains knowledge of national and local trends in scrub technician practice.

• Orientation: Creates, plans, implements, and coordinates orientation for scrub technicians new to the departments. Monitors and reports compliance with required documentation for orientation. Evaluates unit/department orientation process based on health care trends, learning needs and organizational goals

• Training/Role Transition: Creates, plans, implements, and coordinates activities related to training of new graduate and experienced scrub technicians new to the unit/department. Activities to include coaching of new scrub technicians, performance evaluation and growth plans, in collaboration with management, if necessary. Monitors and reports compliance with required documentation for training. Evaluates training/role transition process based on health care trends, learning needs and organizational goals.

• Leadership: Actively participates, communicates, and serves as a positive change agent for all units'/departments', campuses' and system's initiatives/goals and leadership activities. Participates as required in recruitment and interviewing of staff.

• Career Development: Facilitates and evaluates activities related to career development and succession planning for assigned staff, in collaboration with unit/department leadership. Counsels assigned staff related to their career pathway.

• Continuing Education/Continued Competency: Creates, plans, implements and coordinates activities related to systematic professional learning experiences, based on needs assessments, designed to augment the knowledge, skills and attitudes of assigned staff including continuing education, in-service education, continued competence based on unit/department needs, organization initiatives/goals and policy revisions. Monitors and reports compliance with required education.

• Academic Partnership: Acts as the main liaison with all local Surgical Technology programs to ensure academic partnerships are fostered and maintained. Facilitates a supportive environment for academic partnership by ensuring appropriate student placement and a positive student experience within the unit/department. Collects data on students' clinical experience and likelihood to join AdventHealth upon graduation. Works with hiring departments and HR to ensure students are interviewed and placed in a timely manner.

• Participates in practice changes as a result of performance improvement activities. Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the departments. Ensures that practice changes, as a result of performance improvement activities, are implemented. Adheres to all policies and procedures.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Conceptual and practical understanding of various training techniques for users with various learning styles


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook, Word, Power Point and Excel
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulatory bodies
  • Ability to scrub independently in at least 3 major surgical specialties


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Graduate from school of Surgical Technology, LPN program, RN program or related military training program
  • Minimum of 8 years of scrub tech experience in a hospital setting


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
  • Experience in healthcare related education/ training
  • Experience in current performance improvement frameworks and methodologies
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in related field


LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
  • If LPN, current valid State of Florida or multi state license as a Licensed Practical Nurse (additional surgical technician certification not required) or Certified Surgery Technician (CST) from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Certified Operating Room Technician (CORT) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or RN license
