Summary

Under the general supervision of department management and the indirect supervision of a Surgical Technologist, assists with the perioperative care in a technical support staff function. Position is an employee who is a student currently enrolled in accredited Surgical Technologist courses and has completed the first 16 weeks.

Responsibilities

• Assists in opening back table, mayo stand, sterile supplies and instruments with the appropriate supervision • Assists the circulating nurse in the set-up and breakdown of equipment required before, during, and after each procedure, and reports any equipment malfunctions to the circulating nurse or Surgical Supervisor. • Assists circulating nurse with various positioning of equipment • Assists in movement, positioning and transporting of patients to other units • Demonstrate proper PPE procedures, to include scrubbing, gowning and gloving with appropriate supervision Assists with draping of the patient • As directed, holds retractors and limbs as needed during preparation of cases • Maintains various inventory levels of supplies in rooms and cabinets • Running labs and specimens, obtaining blood products from lab • Assist in room turnover, including cleaning room, washing and sterilizing equipment • Picking instruments for cases as needed. Assist Sterile Processing Department in assembling trays • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Required o Currently enrolled in an accredited Surgical Technician Program (Completion of 16 weeks) o American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
