Position Purpose:

NOTE: Candidate can work out of our Milwaukee (WI), Boston (MA), or Paramus (NJ) offices.

The Sustainability Program Manager plays an important role in advancing sustainability initiatives and supporting the implementation of Veolia North America's (VNA) sustainability strategy. This position works closely with the Chief Sustainability Officer, cross-functional teams, and business units to integrate sustainable practices, manage sustainability projects, and engage stakeholders. The Sustainability Program Manager manages biodiversity initiatives, coordinates sustainability reporting and data management, monitors sustainability performance, and promotes employee engagement across the organization.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Chief Sustainability Officer to refine, expand and deploy a comprehensive sustainability program and strategy.
  • Enhance and refine existing sustainability data management structure to support both internal and external reporting needs and serve as the central point of contact for VNA's procurement and M&A teams, clients, suppliers, and other entities.
  • Coordinate the development and rollout of VNA's annual sustainability report in close collaboration with the communications team and sustainability experts in each VNA business unit.
  • Manage the VNA biodiversity initiative through effective collaboration with each business unit and the Veolia Group.
  • Serve on the cross-functional decarbonization project management team under the leadership of the Decarbonization Steering Committee.
  • Manage the corporate aspects of VNA's Voluntary Carbon Contribution project in close coordination with the project team and explore additional nature-based solutions at other facilities across the country.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders across the organization to integrate sustainability practices and collaborate with sustainability representatives in all business units and functions.
  • Create, coordinate, facilitate and manage a Sustainability Council with representatives from each business unit and support function.
  • Drive employee engagement initiatives to promote sustainability practices across the organization.
  • Engage with external stakeholders on sustainability issues with Chief Sustainability Officer guidance, and represent VNA in sustainability-related forums, events, and discussions.
  • Maintain knowledge of developing industry trends, regulations, and best practices in sustainability to drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:
  • Bachelor's degree required in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business or a related field with a minimum of 5-7 years of experience.
  • A Masters degree is preferred with a minimum of 2-3+ years of experience in related industry.
  • Experience in developing and implementing sustainability initiatives.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Self-starter with strong organization, project management, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Successfully work on multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with deadlines.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting.
  • Conversational proficiency in French is a plus.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
  • Interest in pursuing additional sustainability training or certification encouraged.

Physical Requirements:
  • Office work environment, site visits to better understand the business.
