Leidos Defense Systems is currently seeking System Administrator to work in our Bowie, MD office.

The candidate will be part of an IT and engineering team responsible for the design, deployment, maintenance, configuration management, monitoring, and trouble shooting of an expanding infrastructure supporting a multi-platform, multi-site, high availability, secure, real-time network. The work to be performed will require that the candidate be able to work comfortably at several levels of support from resolving networks problems, through the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of network equipment, software, and services from commercial vendors. Provide updates to management for strategic planning purposes.

Projects and tasks will be assigned and at times self-initiated requiring independent judgement in balancing of resources, schedules, work hours, as well as travel to regional sites to obtain results. Work will require ability to manage the risk for PC workstations and peripherals, and ancillary equipment.

Primary Responsibilities.

The selected individual will be responsible for performing daily system administration and O&M support activities in support of a complex network environment with geographically distributed systems. The position entails the daily sustainment of existing computing and network systems at various locations, with a particular focus on the set-up and maintenance of an off-site location. Will be responsible for monitoring infrastructure systems, applications, and processes, and for ensuring that all issues are identified, tracked, and resolved in a timely manner. She/he will provide support for all infrastructure systems and will respond to hardware and software incidents impacting local users as well as working with and taking direction from senior system administrators, at times working with them remotely from other locations.

Additional responsibilities include:
  • Working with other system administrators and technicians in identifying, troubleshooting, and correcting hardware and software issues including network connectivity.
  • Providing hands on technical assistance in support of overlapping projects and maintaining good inter-departmental relations.
  • Communicating with users and publishing status of any system outages, as needed.
  • Proactively contacting customers when infrastructure processes are significantly delayed or may impact their ability to complete a business function on time.
  • Executing the process for managing information assurance vulnerability alerts (IAVAs) and system security scanning for equipment suites in accordance with the System Security Plans for these systems to rapidly and accurately identify and remediate IAVAs.
  • Initiating IAVA responses and system security scans; completing remediation; extending IAVA patches and security updates on various IT and network systems.
  • Participating in the creation and ongoing maintenance of documentation to ensure clear, concise and accurate information is readily available to assist with incident resolution.
  • Providing support for implementing IT enhancements and undertaking project work.
  • Handling IT Help Desk calls and emails, ensuring all interactions are handled timely and in a professional manner.
  • Utilizing enterprise monitoring solutions to identify alarms that have been triggered against the environments.


Basic Qualifications

BS degree and 8 - 12 years of prior relevant experience or Master's with 6 - 10 years of prior relevant experience. May possess a Doctorate in technical domain.

  • Must have technical experience configuring IT software programs that utilize complex equipment/systems (ex. Windows/Linux operating systems, VMware, Active Directory, DNS, Lync, Dell Power Edge Servers, Backup Servers, File Storage, etc.).
  • Must have technical experience troubleshooting IT software programs that utilize complex equipment/systems (ex. Windows/Linux operating systems, VMware, Active Directory, DNS, Lync, Dell Power Edge Servers, Backup Servers, File Storage, etc.).
  • Must have technical experience monitoring IT software programs that utilize complex equipment/systems (ex. Windows/Linux operating systems, VMware, Active Directory, DNS, Lync, Dell Power Edge Servers, Backup Servers, File Storage, etc.).
  • Must have experience with the DISA STIGS
  • Must have experience with IT system optimization, monitoring, and/or other technical set-up and troubleshooting.
  • Must have experience providing information for and documenting technical processes.
  • Must have experience or strong familiarity with Data Center design and configuration (e.g. rack and stack, power, placement, etc.).
  • Must be capable of responding very quickly to customer inquiries in a clear, concise manner, to include providing detailed and comprehensive status reports and follow-ups.
  • Must be committed to adopting and adhering to best practices including compliance with maintenance windows and change control procedures.
  • Must possess strong analytic abilities and must be meticulous and careful in their work.
  • Must be an independent thinker capable of working proficiently independently as well as within a team.
  • Must be able to respond to system administration, operations, and maintenance problems on an as-needed or on-call basis.

Certifications:
  • Must have VMWare Certified Professional (VCP)


Must be a US citizen and be a resident of Bowie, MDorbe willing to relocate to the Bowie, MD area.

Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance.

Pay Range: Pay Range $87,100.00 - $157,450.00
