System Development Engineer, Mercury ADC Ops

Columbia, Maryland

Employer: Amazon
Industry: Software Development
Salary: Competitive
Job type: Full-Time

Would you like to implement innovative cloud computing solutions and solve the world's most complex technical problems? Do you have a deep passion and desire to engineer and operate the world's largest cloud computing infrastructure to build a better world for future generations?

AWS established a specialized group of service teams responsible for the work we are doing in support of the U.S. Intelligence Community. We are building some of the largest distributed systems in the world, and we need adaptable people to help us implement and operate them.

AWS Commerce Platform is seeking a talented software development engineer to design and build innovative cross-domain solutions. Countries and organizations around the world have varied and increasingly strict data protection needs. These requirements add complexity to operating our globally-distributed, massive-scale solution. We need your help designing and delivering game-changing solutions to facilitate changes to how we operate our platform.

The candidate selected must obtain and maintain a security clearance at the TS/SCI with polygraph level. Upon start, the selected candidate will be sponsored for a commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work.

Key job responsibilities

You will provide software development support and leadership for a team of highly talented engineers that build and operate Commerce Platform's (CP) systems that enable customers to purchase AWS services while understanding and managing their cloud infrastructure costs.

Our engineering teams support services running in air gapped regions that are often isolated from the public internet creating unique engineering challenges and opportunities for innovation. The ADC Commerce Platform (CP) Operations team is responsible for diving deep to resolve operational challenges, innovating to automate operational tasks, supporting execution of various security campaigns (blocked software, host patching), and parity program activities such as data migration, client migration and service cutovers.

As a SysDev you will:

- Provide our customers with a great experience.

- Drive engineering effort, implementation, and deployments that meet functional, performance, scalability, and reliability requirements while adhering to software development principles and best practices.

- Work closely with team members to architect and develop the best technical designs and approaches.

- Foster a culture of continuous engineering improvement through mentoring, feedback, and metrics.

- Learn AWS system architecture and be responsible for diving deep into code.

- Own all operational metrics and support for your software.

- Evangelize operational excellence by leading operation reviews, documenting best practices, and prioritizing automation and infrastructure as code initiatives.

- Distill and communicate technical concepts to the team and other stakeholders.

About the team

The CP ADC Operations team provides support for the suite of Commerce Platform services operating in the ADC (air gapped) regions. Commerce Platform processes trillions of events per month from AWS services such as these to provide bill generation, payment processing, fraud prevention, customer usage, and analytics to both AWS customers and internal users. Because we sit at the nexus of all AWS services and interact directly with end-customers, we work closely with other AWS teams to ensure our customers are provided with a great experience.
