Chipton-Ross is seeking a System Safety Engineer 4 for a contract/hybrid opportunity in Long Beach, CA, Berkeley, MO or Plano, TX.

*This position is HYBRID, 3 days a week onsite.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identifies, analyzes, and assesses regulatory and/or contractual compliance of aerospace systems, products and services against the applied development and design assurance standards to provide the necessary hazard mitigation evidence.
- Conducts systems research and analysis to identify potential failure conditions or investigate reported in-service fleet hazards, risks, and safety concerns using qualitative and quantitative methods per the safety assessment process.
- Identifies safety issue systemic root causes and recommends corrective actions using industry best practices (ARP4761 Commercial and MIL STD-882 for Military).
- Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to define, validate, and integrate safety requirements.
- Verifies that the system meets or exceeds the defined safety requirements by conducting safety analyses, audits, and reviews.
- Creates and maintains aerospace safety tools and resources.
- Documents safety analysis, hazard mitigations, and validation and verification activities in compliance with relevant customer and regulatory safety standards.
- Demonstrates safety hazard risk mitigation and control methods to the customer and regulators.
- Establishes and promotes safety advocacy strategies, training, tools, and methods.

REQUIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years of experience in systems engineering

DESIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- ARP 4754 Systems and Safety Driven Development Standards including architectural understanding and derivation and decomposition
- Experience with requirement generation, verification planning, and safety considerations
- ARP 4761 In depth knowledge for safety driven development, verification, and validation methods including development of the following safety artifacts: Driving Functions List, FHA, PSSA, SSA, FTA, and overall Hazard Mitigation process.
- Experience with Development Traceability for hazards into SW and HW per DO-178 and DO-254
- Experience with Commercial Certification Basis and Military Mil Handbook 516 Certification Basis.

EDUCATION:
Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science (e.g. Bachelor's and 9 or more years' experience, Master's with 7 or more years' experience or PhD with 4 or more years' experience.) In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
