Responsibilities

The Backup and Recovery platform is responsible for backing up the servers in the Florida State Data Center (SDC). The SDC is an enterprise size data center providing server hosting and managed services for Florida State Government Agencies.

Provides advanced support and expertise for Backup and Recovery Services. Provides consultation and technical advice to management, staff, and customers regarding the administration, design, and maintenance of the equipment used for the backup and recovery of different systems.

Responsible for day-to-day administration and oversight of all backup and recovery services hardware and software including creation and maintenance of backup policies and retentions, performance tuning and monitoring, installation of backup client software, and troubleshooting backup and replication failures. Provides advanced troubleshooting and develops solutions for backup, recovery, and data replication issues to complex system problems thereby ensuring system reliability. Administration of Backup/Recovery software such as: Avamar, Networker, CommVault, Tivoli, and/or Backup Exec. Participates in a team on-call rotation in support of a 24x7 data center.

Anticipates, mitigates, identifies, troubleshoots, and develops appropriate technical solutions to backup and restore related issues. Serves as recovery expert and recommends system enhancements to staff and customers. Assists storage team with monitoring, analyzing and predicting trends for storage equipment performance, space allocation and data growth to recommend improvements to the IT storage team. Researches and makes recommendations on storage products, services, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.

Advises the management team on developing project plans and proposals, as well as recommended policies and procedures to administer these backup and storage systems effectively.

Participates in approved professional development opportunities per NWRDC's policy. Professional development and training is defined as learning undertaken by the employee to maintain and advance their skills, knowledge, and competencies, specifically as they relate and add value to the job and workplace. Other duties and responsibilities as required by the supervisor.

NWRDC provides support for a wide range of state and local government, as well K- 20 organizations across the State of Florida. These organizations are dependent on NWRDC in order to accomplish their missions. This requires NWRDC to maintain services 24x7, even during times of crisis or emergency. As such, all NWRDC staff are considered essential staff for the operations of the State of Florida.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or other appropriate degree and two years experience or a combination of appropriate post high school education and experience equal to six years.

Ability to obtain Security Awareness Training Certification upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Two plus years Microsoft Windows Server Administration including AD, services management, log analysis, general troubleshooting.

Two plus years advanced Commvault administration or other enterprise backup software such as NetWorker, Avamar, and etc.

Working knowledge of general networking concepts such as DNS, TCPIP, routing, firewalls, and etc.

Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server including installation configuration options.

Familiar with Linux Server OS: Command Line usage, Service management, and Application management.

Working knowledge of SAN and Cloud data storage solutions.

Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel including advanced features such as lookup functions.

Advanced skills in data mining using application and system reports and logs. The ability to identify anomalies, errors, failures, and trends.

What is a typical day in this position?

Day-to-day duties include monitoring the task ticket queue and working the tasks as required. Reviewing reports from the backup applications to detect any failures or anomalies. Communicating with customers and/or other internal platforms as needed concerning new or ongoing tasks.

What can I expect in the first 60-90 days?

On the job training in day-to-day activities. To begin 24hr on-call rotation duties.
