Project/Unit Description

Provide research and development based Subject Matter Expertise (SME) to Department of Defense (DoD) and federal agencies to assist them with designing, building, and sustaining networks.

Supporting the fielding and sustaining of the Commercial Solutions for Classified network.

This position is for a Systems Engineer who will serve on a team of technical Engineers in support of multiple government programs. Candidates will be involved in the planning, design, development, implementation, and technical support of multi-platform, multi-system networks that includes requirements analysis and optimizing system performance. The ideal candidate will possess good communication, presentation, and writing skills. They will have a proven track record of being a problem solver and team player who is capable of working in a technically challenging environment supporting the Department of the Navy.

Job Purpose

The Systems Engineer oversees and coordinates the work of technical teams on systems projects, ensuring the successful design, implementation, operation, and technical management of those projects. Taking a holistic approach to systems engineering, the Systems Engineer ensures that all aspects of a system project are considered and addressed. The Systems Engineer works closely with stakeholders to understand their needs and then develops and documents technical requirements that meet those needs. The Systems Engineer leads the design team in developing a system architecture that meets all of the requirements. After the system is designed, the Systems Engineer oversees the implementation of the system, working with the implementation team to ensure that it meets all of the requirements. Once the system is deployed, the Systems Engineer manages the technical aspects of the system, including monitoring performance, troubleshooting problems, and making improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct top-down functional analysis and translate requirements into detailed performance design criteria
  • Design and build templates to assist Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in providing critical system information
  • Conduct product or system design synthesis translating requirements into physical architectures for systems of low complexity to include defining and refining internal and external interfaces
  • Contribute to and develop technical reports and diagrams detailing product or system attributes


Additional Responsibilities

  • Providing on-call and touch labor support in the sustainment of networks.
  • Responsible for providing SME to assist in the sustainment of Marine Corps and coalition networks.


Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree from any accredited university in Information Technology or Cybersecurity
  • Comp TIA Security+


Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 plus years with Windows and virtualization architectures with detailed understanding of Microsoft, Linux such as RHEL (Red Hat
  • Enterprise Linux), and VMware environment.
  • Experience and understanding with VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure.
  • Experience and understanding with HCI (Hyperconverged Infrastructure).
  • Experience with implementation and troubleshooting backup solution such as Veeam.
  • Installation, configuration and support of Active Directory, domain controllers, DNS, DHCP, PKI integration, VMware vSphere, vSAN, and
  • VMware Horizon.
  • Proven ability to install and configure physical components; servers, type 1 hypervisors, and virtual appliances.
  • Experience with PacStar IQ-Core syslog and management services.
  • Experience and understanding of PKI implementation and troubleshooting communications between CAs, OCSP, CRLDP, and various servers and devices.
  • Experience and understanding in how to generate CSR (Certificate Signing Request) for various servers and adding approved certificates to respective servers afterward.
  • Familiar with running and configuring ACAS scans and STIG scans.
  • Familiar with hardening systems such as DoD STIG'ing and SCAP scanning.
  • Ansible automation skills.
  • Expertise in performance analysis, management, design, capacity and throughput planning.
  • Utilizing performance monitoring, management and other tools to ensure network security and optimal performance.
  • Effectively interact via good verbal and written communications with technical Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and Program Managers.
  • Demonstrated ability to install and configure operating systems.
  • On-call support for CONUS and OCONUS requirements.
