Introduction

The Wisconsin Department of Revenue (DOR) is seeking limited term employees (LTEs) to assist with processing tax returns. These positions are located at our Madison, Milwaukee, and Green Bay offices. For our Data Entry Operator positions specifically, positions will have initial training in person at a DOR office, with eligibility for 100% remote work available after training.

Tax experience is not required; training is provided for all positions. LTE positions do not have benefits but can provide valuable knowledge and skills useful for competing for permanent positions that may later become available at DOR. LTE positions are limited to 1,039 hours per year.

This recruitment will remain open until the needs of the department are met.

Position Summary

Customer Service Agent - Income Tax Unit, Business Tax Unit, or Taxpayer Assistance Unit A. Madison, Milwaukee, or Green Bay. Pay rate $20.24/hour.
Work hours: M - F; 7:45 am - 4:15 pm, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, or 8:15 am - 4:45 pm; full-time preferred but not required. Approximate duration: January - June.

These positions will work in a DOR office and are not eligible to work remotely. Income and Business Tax positions are available in our call center in Madison or Milwaukee; Taxpayer Assistance positions are available at our in-person customer service centers in Milwaukee and Green Bay.

Duties: Respond to routine inquiries from taxpayers about Wisconsin income or business taxes, homestead/earned income credits, and refunds. Interpret information found on tax forms, publications, and our internal tax systems to provide accurate information to customers. Additional duties for Taxpayer Assistance unit: Assist customers in person with tax questions and payments, and complete homestead credit forms.

Qualifications: Basic computer knowledge, ability to learn new software, ability to follow detailed procedures, strong verbal and written communication skills, and ability to communicate with a variety of customers in a professional manner. Spanish speaking applicants are encouraged to apply. Additional qualifications for Income and Business Tax units: Ability to remain stationary, be on the phone, and wear a headset up to 8 hours per day.

Revenue Agent, Tax Operations - Income Tax . Madison or Green Bay. Pay rate $20.24/hour
Work hours: M - F; any time between 7:00 am - 4:30 pm. Full-time preferred; will consider part time of at least 32 hours/week. Anticipated duration: January - July.

Duties: Review and resolve semi-complex, suspended income tax returns and payments. Issue letters requesting additional information to resolve suspended returns. Review requests for information and reply as assigned. Create vouchers for estimated tax, return, and bill payments and review identification documents.

Qualifications: Verbal and written communication skills, intermediate computer skills, detail-oriented researching skills, self-motivated, ability to switch between tasks, and ability to work in a team atmosphere.

Revenue Agent, Compliance - Process Data Services . Madison. Pay rate $20.24/hour
Work hours: M - F; 7:45 am - 4:30 pm; full-time preferred but not required. Approximate duration: January - June.
These positions will work in a DOR office building and are not eligible to work remotely. Duties: Respond to customer inquiries via telephone and email regarding the interception of refunds against debts to other Wisconsin state agencies. Prepare payment vouchers, determine prorated refunds, research and apply suspended payments, and conduct research on name and identification mismatches.

Qualifications: Ability to work independently and perform detailed research and analysis, problem solving skills, basic math skills, verbal communication skills, ability to maintain proper telephone etiquette, intermediate computer skills, and ability to remain stationary for long periods of time.

Mail Review, Revenue Tax Assistant . Madison. Pay rate $16.50 per hour.
Work hours: M - F, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm. Approximate duration: February - May.

Positions are not eligible to work remotely.

Duties: Opening, sorting, prepping mail for scanning.

Qualifications: Ability to sit, bend, twist, and to handle repetitive work.

Mail Review, Shipping & Mailing Associate . Madison. Pay rate $16.75 per hour.
Work hours: M - F, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm. Approximate duration: December - May.

Positions are not eligible to work remotely.

Duties: Opening, sorting, prepping mail for scanning; processing library form orders; moving/transporting boxes; and gathering/distributing completed work to scanning.

Qualifications: Ability to stand on your feet and walk for much of the day, lift 25 lbs., sit, bend, twist, and handle repetitive work.

Data Entry Operator. Pay rate $17.00 per hour. 100% remote work available. Initial training will occur in a DOR office. After training, work from anywhere in Wisconsin with an internet connection.

Work Hours: Weekdays, evenings, and weekends available. Approximate duration: January - May.

Duties: Enter data into software systems for a variety of documents. Verify data from scanned documents in the system, checking for accuracy and make corrections if necessary.

Qualifications: Ability to: compare documents, type 45 words per minute/6000 key-strokes alphanumeric, sit for extended periods of time, and work independently with accuracy in a fast-paced, production environment.

Scanning Support Technician. Madison. Pay rate $18.00 per hour.

Work Hours: M - F, 30-40 hours/week, variable between 6:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Approximate duration: January - May.

Duties: Make batches of documents ready for scanning by squaring up unorganized stacks of tax returns in a paper jogging machine. Move boxes of work to and from shelves as needed. Retrieve scanned documents in error status.

Qualifications: Ability to stand and sit for extended periods of time, lift 25lbs, and handle vibration and noise.

Job Details
