WHO ARE WE

The Texas Department of Agriculture's Legal Services Division's Enforcement Section investigates violations of state and federal pesticide, herbicide, Right-to-Know laws and regulations, consumer laws and programs, plant quality, seed quality, weights and measures, commodity warehouses, and egg quality.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Administrative Assistantwill provide routine administrative support or technical program assistance work for the Legal Services Division of the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) to contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the agency. You will work under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist with penalty payment and order processing, including updating the database.

Mail Notices of Violation and other enforcement documents.

Perform other data entry tasks and quality assurance (QA) review of entered data.

Assist with copying and mailing, or electronically transmitting hearing notices and proposals/orders.

Assist with records retention for enforcement and hearing files.

Develop, coordinate and maintain record keeping and filing system for correspondence, forms, reports and documents in accordance with Agency Records Management Policy. Assist in compiling and entering data for charts, graphs, databases, summaries or reports.

Open, review and route incoming mail; and process outgoing mail. Assist with copying documents.

Follow all TDA policies and procedures.

Perform other duties as assigned.



Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree (a high school diploma and two years full-time work experience in office practices and administrative procedures may substitute for a degree).

One (1) year work experience providing administrative or technical support to a program.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge of office practices and administrative procedures.

Skill in the use of a computer and office equipment; and providing customer service excellence to both internal and external customers

Ability to prepare and maintain records, files, and reports; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and exercise sound judgment and discretion.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal office work environment and may have exposure to dust and environmental allergens consistent with normal business activities and human contact. Mostly sedentary in nature but may involve walking; standing; pulling and pushing; kneeling, stooping and bending; performing tasks requiring fine motor skills and coordination; and safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds. Must be able work extended periods at a computer and may require working extended hours and some evenings and weekends, as needed. May be required to travel, which will include overnight. May involve travel (up to 5%*), occasionally overnight.
