Systems Administrator V

This position involves performing highly advanced and senior level computer systems analysis work. Work involves planning, budgeting, and analyzing user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate processing or to improve existing systems. Plans, assigns, and/or oversees the work of others. Works under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.

This position:

• Coordinates the security patching of operating systems and third-party software products on Linux and AIX system.

• Analyzes, troubleshoots, and resolves system software, and networking issues; and provide status reports to management.

• Creates, analyzes, and modifies procedures for efficiency and effectiveness.

• Defines and manages the roles and access privileges of individual users and devices to a variety of applications to prevent unauthorized access.

• Designs, analyze and implement server application installations for Linux and AIX.

• Work within a project team to develop procedures and tasks required to perform system or software upgrades, troubleshooting, training, and maintenance on various agency systems.

• May serve as a technical team-lead on projects and may supervise the work of others.

• Performs other duties as assigned.



Qualifications:

This position requires:

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in computer science, computer information systems, or management information systems, or a related field.

• At least five years' experience of Unix system administrator work within an Enterprise IT environment.

Each additional year of related experience above the required minimum may be substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.

Additional job details:

This position requires regular work attendance. The position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule. If eligible, the employee must have a secure, dedicated workspace with reliable broadband internet service. The ideal candidate must be available for weekly meetings and group collaboration via Microsoft Teams and other applications during regular business hours.

Preferences for this position include:

• System administration experience working with KSH, Bash or Python scripting.

• System administration experience working with Kubernetes or Docker.

• System administration experience working with IBM WebSphere Middleware.

• System administration experience working with security Vulnerabilities Remediation

This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

• Unix system administration.

• Routers and data communication methods.

• Computer operating systems such as Unix, Linux and Windows 20xx Server.

• Linux and AIX user account and permission management.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

• Problem solving and critical thinking.

• Using Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.

• Using personal computers sufficient to enter and extract data from related systems and programs such as Centralized Accounting Payroll and Personnel (CAPPS) and other systems required to perform the job.

• Planning, decision-making and problem-solving.

• Effective oral and verbal communication.

• Solve advanced issues by using logical steps to troubleshooting Unix based computer systems.

• Day to Day Unix system administration.

• Write and revise test plans, standards and procedures.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

• Communicate and work effectively with a wide range of people with varied skills, knowledge, and backgrounds.

• Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.

• Analyze and solve work-related problems and work independently on a variety of administrative work and technical assignments.

• Manage and coordinate multiple tasks and priorities to meet necessary deadlines.

• Work both independently and as a team player.

• Bend, stoop and safely lift items weighing 50 pounds.
