The duties include but are not limited to:
  • Establishes objectives and plans learning experiences.
  • Implements activities using a variety of techniques that utilize instructional time to meet objectives.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Exhibits positive human relations skills.
  • Evaluates the educational program and/or student progress through participation in County/State Band events.
  • Prepares students for marching and concert band responsibilities.
  • Prepares, provides, and presents a band handbook to the Principal and Fine Arts Supervisor by July 30 th each school year.
  • Attends all parades with the band.
  • Attends all other band and/or band-related functions.
  • Follows the regular school year and summer High School Band Director Supplement Guidelines as outlined in the annual MCPSS Salary Schedule.
  • Submits a specific weekly schedule for the summer to the Principal and Fine Arts Supervisor.
  • Submits a schedule and timeline to the Fine Arts Supervisor by July 30th for special required activities to take place during the first semester of the school year.
  • Submits a schedule and timeline to the Fine Arts Supervisor by October 31st for special required activities to take place during the first semester of the school year.
  • Handles all funds in an efficient and ethical manner observing all MCPSS Financial Procedures and Guidelines established by the Local School Accounting Department of the Business Division.
  • Communicates with parents/guardians, colleagues, and community groups.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication.
  • Maintains and submits records and reports.
  • Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policies, and state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Engages in personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership.
  • Guides and counsels groups and individual students through the development of educational and career plans.
  • Performs such other duties as assigned by the Fine Arts Supervisor, the principal and/or other or school system administrators.


QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a current valid Alabama Teaching Certification in Instrumental Music.

SALARY: As per State Matrix, depending on degree and experience. Bachelor's beginning pay: $44,225.00. Band Director Supplements may be withdrawn or added at any time and are not considered base pay.

**Applicants selected for certified positions must have undergone an ABI/FBI criminal history background check (fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department) and been declared suitable and fit to teach under state law. Applicants selected must also pass a drug-screening test via forms provided by Human Resources during the selection process.**
