JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Teacher

REPORTS TO: School Principal

JOB GOAL: To implement an effective educational program for the designated grade level and subject area(s) using the designated course of study, appropriate materials and resources, and best instructional practices

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must meet applicable federal and state certification/qualification requirements for the position
  • Proficiency in oral and written communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups
  • Ability to use technology to communicate, to plan and provide instruction, to facilitate student learning, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information
  • Ability to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as state and federal law and the Board may require


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and priorities
  2. Demonstrates competent knowledge of the structure of the academic discipline related to assigned subject-matter content areas
  3. Demonstrates competent knowledge of the Alabama courses of study and locally developed curriculum guides related to the teaching assignment
  4. Anchors content knowledge in learning experiences that are meaningful and engaging
  5. Defines clear goals and objectives for unit and daily lesson plans
  6. Provides accommodations, modifications, and/or adaptations to the curriculum required
  7. Uses students' prior knowledge and experiences to introduce new subject-area content and present instructional experiences that are designed to be motivating and engaging for those students
  8. Implements developmentally appropriate instructional strategies
  9. Utilizes a variety of flexible student groupings to support differentiated instruction

10. Utilizes ongoing formative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instructional plans accordingly

11. Collaborates with other teachers to interpret and use student data for instructional planning and program evaluation

12. Administers all school, District, and state required assessments in accordance with required procedures

13. Facilitates students' individual and collaborative use of technology to support learning

14. Positively models the appropriate and responsible use of technology

15. Creates a classroom environment that values and responds to cultural, ethnic, gender, linguistic, and socio-economic differences and recognizes the impact of these differences on individual learner needs, preferences, and styles

16. Expects and responds to a broad range of student academic and behavioral needs in the classroom and provides accommodations to individual students as required

17. Involves parents and/or families as active partners in planning and supporting student learning

18. Actively participates in collaborative professional learning communities to increase student achievement and grow professional expertise

19. Actively engages in ongoing, continuous professional learning

20. Uses and maintains confidential information in accordance with state and federal law and local Board policy

21. Practices safe, responsible, legal, and ethical use of technology following the Hoover City Schools' Acceptable Use Agreement

22. Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner

23. Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system

24. Adheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws

25. Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s)
