About the Employer

The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) serves some of Orange County's most vulnerable student populations and provides support and mandated fiscal oversight to 28 school districts serving more than 600 schools and approximately 475,000 students. In addition to providing direct instruction to students through its own alternative and special education programs, OCDE administers an array of programs and services that are critical to the operations of local school districts and community colleges, facilitating professional development, legal guidance, payroll, career and technical education support, high-speed internet access, Local Control and Accountability Plan assistance and approval, resources for families, and student enrichment. Job Summary

The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) is seeking passionate and dedicated individuals to join our Special Education team as Teachers specializing in Mild/Moderate disabilities within the Division of Alternative Education. At OCDE, we are committed to fostering a safe and healthy learning environment where students can achieve academic success and develop essential life skills. Our goal is to nurture self-motivation, accountability, competence, and positive relationships, empowering students to enhance their self-esteem and become contributing members of society. Each administrative area utilizes our department's professional services to ensure that students have every opportunity to grow and succeed. Essential Functions and Duties: • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's needs. • Provide specialized instruction in academic, communication, self-help, social-emotional, vocational, and other skill areas. • Create and deliver lessons, reinforce key concepts, assess student work, and monitor progress. • Accompany and supervise students on community-based instructional outings, work programs, and field trips. • Maintain regular communication with parents, caregivers, and external service providers to support students' educational programs. • Keep accurate records of student academic performance and behavioral progress. • Supervise students during non-instructional times, including lunch, recess, and transportation. • Assist students with personal hygiene, grooming, and self-help skills, including toileting and dressing. • Manage student behavior through positive strategies and implement Behavior Intervention Plans. Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the necessary knowledge and abilities to perform the job is required. A typical pathway includes: • Bachelor's degree or above from a regionally accredited college or university. Licenses, Certificates, and Special Requirements: • A valid California Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in Special Education for students with mild/moderate disabilities. • Authorization to provide instruction for ELD and SDAIE to English learners. • The selected candidate may be required to complete additional employment clearances, such as probation clearance, as part of the hiring process.
