Position Overview

The School of Kinesiology, College of Education and Human Development, University of Minnesota is seeking an outstanding candidate for a non-tenure-track Teaching Specialist (Academic Professional) position in Kinesiology. Our academic programs include 2 sections of SMGT 3421: Business of Sport (3 credits each) enrolling approximately 40 students per section. This is a one-semester opportunity. Job Responsibilities

Teaching 50%
  • Teach core courses in the undergraduate programs (two courses per semester, 6 credits).
  • Develop syllabus and course content.
  • Prepare course materials.
  • Respond to student inquiries and meet with students.
  • Fulfill the learning objectives of the courses.
  • Grade student materials such as exams, papers and final projects, and provide effective feedback.
  • Supervise and mentor graduate teaching assistants assigned to the course.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Kinesiology or closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience and effectiveness in higher education.
  • Demonstrated strengths in oral and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to high-quality teaching, mentoring, and service to students, colleagues, and the university.
  • Ability to develop and deliver courses in ways that effectively account for a variety of diverse backgrounds, communities, identities, and abilities.

Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD or equivalent terminal degree in Kinesiology or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience in mentoring or advising undergraduate or graduate students.

School of Kinesiology focuses on the biological, developmental, social, and behavioral bases of physical activity, recreation, sport and human performance through its programs in kinesiology, recreation and leisure students, and sport studies.
