Tesla's Energy Engineering Products team is looking for a Software Program Manager to own and drive the delivery of outstanding firmware and software for our industrial products, including Megapack. The right candidate has a proven track record of planning and executing multiple parallel complex programs and leading large cross-functional teams. The right candidate will understand firmware and software system development and have experience leading large cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional product performance and customer experience. You will collaborate with a variety of stakeholders to define the product roadmap, you will own the execution of that roadmap, and ensure the product successfully ramps to all customers.
You will be immersed in the design engineering process and will shepherd projects from concept through deployment to customers at scale. You will use your engineering background to understand the product requirements, technical risks, and the validation strategy to accelerate the development process. You will communicate and present project status, lead scrums and standups, highlight schedule risk, and develop recovery plans as needed.

As a Technical Program Manager, you are expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy on your programs while contributing to the development of tools and processes that improve the organization's productivity.

Responsibilities
  • Lead short- and long-term development projects including requirements definition, application architecture, UI design, implementation, automated quality testing, continuous deployment, and field trial
  • Facilitate & project manage partnerships with key groups such as Product Management, Marketing, Executives, Customer Technical Support, Service Engineering, System Test and Firmware/Software development teams, Factory Firmware, and other partner engineering teams
  • Manage and resolve conflict with the ability to influence cross-functional teams while managing multiple simultaneous projects with competing priorities
  • Create detailed and frequently challenging schedules and deliver to commitments with an ability to see all interdependencies for every deliverable and milestone. Identify key critical path areas in the schedule and monitor resolution and overall project impact
  • Raise the bar on product and team quality, and be a customer advocate
  • Inspire, lead, and organize internal improvement initiatives for existing software and firmware engineering. Develop a quality focus in others by establishing clear requirements and measuring key outcomes
  • Manage releases to production at a regular cadence
  • Deliver tactical needs while maintaining strategic focus and vision


Requirements
  • Communicate clearly, regularly, and effectively with leadership, stakeholders, and internal team members in both written and verbal forms.
  • Grasp complex technical topics and abstract key issues and risks into an actionable form while providing risk tracking, and mitigation in technical environments.
  • Must be a proficient user of Microsoft Office, JIRA, Confluence, and Git
  • Ability to make decisions, act quickly, and work in a dynamic environment
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment
  • Degree in Computer Science or other engineering discipline, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years experience leading large, cross-functional teams as a program manager or engineering leader
  • 3+ years working with software or firmware teams, as a developer or tester
  • Desired: Background/experience in Energy Products, solar or storage technologies
  • Desired: In-depth knowledge of electrical or mechanical engineering, power conversion

    • Expected Compensation

      $88,000 - $300,000/annual salary, depending on level + cash and stock awards + benefits

      Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
