POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Laboratory Operations Manager, the Technical Specialist oversees technical aspects of staff across laboratory departments and the technical and non-technical staff in the Core Lab (Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Bacteriology, and Urinalysis) while overseeing testing operations within the lab.

The Technical Specialist will oversee and assist the Point of Care and Quality Coordinator with all quality assurance and maintenance in the Core Lab (Blood Bank, Hematology, Coagulation, Chemistry, Bacteriology, and LIS)

Additional duties entail personnel management (scheduling, Kronos) and communication with professional staff. Responsible for staff development, training, education, assessing competency, providing input for technical staff evaluations and continuing education for appropriate staff. The Technical Specialist will provide coverage in all areas of the core lab as needed, including day, evening and night shifts with occasional weekend shifts.

Assists all section Leads with ensuring compliance with all regulatory agencies, including, but not limited to, JCAHO, OSHA, and NYS DOH. Oversees the development of standard operating procedures, training, validation studies, competencies and proficiency testing. Assigns & monitors API & CAP educational courses, continuing education etc. to ensure that all employees have 12 continuing education hours per year. The Technical Specialist will carry out the directives from the Laboratory Operations Manager and Medical Director regarding quality initiatives.

Primary hours will be 0700-1530.

EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology required.
  • NYSDOH Licensed Medical Technologist (MT). Must meet New York State requirements under NTCRR Part 58-1 required.
  • Working knowledge in all areas being supervised preferred.

EXPERIENCE:
  • Four (4) years of general laboratory experience and a thorough knowledge of laboratory techniques required.
  • Experience with evaluating spreadsheets and data tabulation preferred.

RELOCATION:

Eligible candidate will be offered a relocation package of up to $9,200. Subject to applicable taxes. Certain restrictions apply.
