  • JOB SUMMARY
    • The Technical Specialist-Histology serves as the technical expert in Histology. Coordinates activities with other members of the laboratory team. Performs routine laboratory work. Leads Histology staff in a constructive, cohesive manner creating a team atmosphere.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    • Education: Successful completion of an Associate Degree in Histotechnology or completion of a certificate program approved by NCCLS or proper credentialing prior to 2005. Credentialing with an agency approved by the U.S. Department of Education of NCHCA such as: HT (ASCP), HT (NCA), HTL (ASCP), or HTL (NCA).
    • Experience: At least five (5) years experience as a Histotechnologist.
    • Licensure/Certification/Registration: ASCP Certification within twelve (12) months of hire as a Histo-Technologist. Those hired without valid certification are encouraged to take the first available examination after their date of hire and pass this certifying exam within three (3) consecutive administrations of the exam within twelve (12) months of hire.

    • Excellent communication skills; ability and desire to teach; ability to investigate and resolve questions and problems; ability to objectively evaluate technical equipment and methodologies.
    • READING - Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
    • WRITING - Intermediate: Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, or procedures.
    • SPEAKING - Intermediate: Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group situations or before groups of customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
    • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Intermediate Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals and to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw or interpret bar graphs to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
    • REASONING ABILITY - Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
