Job Summary

The Clinical Simulation Lab Technician is a fusion of Health Care, technology, and the use of simulation equipment and techniques. It requires strong patient care skills and human simulation skills.

Responsible for managing day-to-day operations and scheduling of SimLab. Ensures a smooth workflow of activities to meet the education needs of faculty and students at Coleman College. The activities in the Simulation Center (SimLab & SimUnit) vary daily as there are multiple users, departments and needs in Coleman College and visitors.

Responsible for developing, preparing, and running simulation equipment in the presence of Health Science faculty. Assists in the interdisciplinary operation of Simulation Center under the direction of the Center's Manager or senior technician.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Sets-up and assist in conducting human simulation demonstrations and tours for faculty, students, and visitors. Restore laboratory to pre-scenario conditions.

Properly and accurately document all tasks and services and collect lab utilization data for monthly reports.

Maintain accurate inventory records and conduct annual physical inventory inspection of HCC assets.

Provide technical support for all simulation operations, including preparation, maintenance, and repair of simulation technology and equipment.

Accept lab requests from faculty or Administration and maintain the lab schedule.

Manage scenario software and devise pre-simulation guides and checklists with input from faculty.

Perform periodic and scheduled maintenance of human simulation manikins and other medical equipment.

Perform assembly, modification and installation of human simulation manikins and task trainers.

Maintain archived simulation training and testing materials.

Assist faculty with pre-session orientation and post session debriefing.

Operate recording software, adjusts cameras and maintains simulation session videos.

Learn the characteristics of new equipment and update skills to adapt to changing technology.

Research to identify emerging trends, best practices, and innovative techniques in simulation.

Stay abreast of the latest advancements in simulation technology, tools and methodologies.

Participate in off-campus events as needed/required.

Performs other duties, tasks and assignments as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

• Associate degree in Allied Health Care field, Simulation, Education or related field required

• Bachelor's degree is preferred

• Experience with adult and pediatric human patient care in a clinical or simulation setting preferred

Licensing & Certification

• Valid Texas Driver License

• Current and valid CPR/BLS card (Basic Life Support) required or able to acquire within 2 months of hire

• Obtain Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certification within 2 years of hire

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) are desirable

Special Skills

• MS Office Programs

• Familiar with human simulators, or the willingness to attend training

• Medical Terminology, abbreviation and scientific symbols

• Knowledge of infection control

• Knowledge of anatomic, physiologic and pathologic props

• Clinical knowledge of medical physiologic monitoring equipment

• Requires heavy physical lifting (50-75 lbs.)

• This is a Security Sensitive position due to recorded images and student records

Working Conditions

General office. Must be able to perform all job requirements with or without reasonable accommodations; remain in a stationary position during shift; move items weighing up to 25 pounds; position self to operate job equipment; apply established protocols in a timely manner. Must access, input and retrieve information from technology devices; communicate with others to accomplish job requirements. May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays.
