UPMC Hamot is looking for a Telemetry Technician to support the Medical Center by monitoring patients on all units!

This position is Full-Time, with rotating day and evening shifts.

Title and salary will be determined based upon education and experience.

Responsibilities:
  • Instructs staff on nursing units to troubleshoot minor problems (e.g., lead placement). Identifies own learning needs and sets personal education goals.
  • Aware of quality improvement issues in the unit and contributes appropriately. Maintains effective inter- and intra-departmental communications, both written and oral.
  • Interacts positively with patients, families, physicians, nursing staff, and other disciplines. Identified as positive, approachable, and consistently respectful and team-oriented.
  • Identifies and communicates patient information to the next shift and ensures effective handoff. Promotes a positive image by refraining from participating in gossip.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment by establishing routine schedules for cleaning the unit. Provides routine maintenance to telemetry equipment and troubleshoots minor problems.
  • Identifies problems and seeks resources to resolve issues within their control. Delivers correct telemetry reports to the appropriate nursing units.
  • Files patient documents on the correct charts. Acquires and maintains supplies; stocks and organizes the unit.
  • Displays awareness of cultural diversity and values patients' perceptions regarding care. Meets the full range of customer needs.
  • Actions demonstrate commitment to Hamot's vision 'to serve.' Handles information in a confidential manner.
  • Demonstrates Hamot's commitment to Service Excellence by understanding the needs of patients, their families, physicians, and co-workers, and fulfilling requirements responsibly, sensitively, accurately, timely, coordinated, and thoroughly.
  • Interprets cardiac rhythm of patients on in-house telemetry. Identifies normal cardiac rhythms and recognizes basic arrhythmias.
  • Reports changes outside stated parameters to the appropriate nursing unit immediately.
  • Is alert and responsive to urgent and emergency situations, acting within established guidelines, and informing responsible persons in case of emergencies.
  • Maintains and updates each patient monitor record consistently and timely. Provides safe patient care, obtaining accurate patient data, and reporting findings promptly with attention to detail.
  • Responds appropriately to delegated duties. Makes annotations on the recording regarding patient movement, artifact, and questionable seizure activity.
  • Learns how to apply electrodes according to the 10-20 system. Recognizes normal waveforms during awake, drowsy, and asleep states.


Qualifications:

  • High School graduate (or completion of G.E.D.)
  • Completion of Telemetry/Arrhythmia Course within 3 months of date of hire.
  • Ability to provide total concentration on a number of monitors over an extended period of time.
  • Ability to interpret cardiac rhythm of patients on in house telemetry Ability to respond to and communicate emergency situations.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34
  • Completion of telemetry/arrhythmia course within 3 months of date of hire.
