The mission of the Little and Baby Vikings Flexible Child Care Centers is to support students with children and the university community with the means to meet their educational, personal, & professional commitments and demands. This mission is accomplished by providing quality affordable, accessible, safe, occasional, and reserved childcare.
Position Summary
The Lead Floating Teacher will support our two on-campus childcare centers for children ages 0 to 12, acting as a go-to person for child supervision, curriculum planning, maintaining the classroom schedule, and ensuring that student employees working alongside take required breaks and follow childcare licensing protocols. This is a temporary, full-time position. Working hours are generally 8:30am-5:00pm Monday to Friday. Pay is $16.71 per hour. Start date is immediately/as soon as possible. This temporary position may shift to a regular, full-time position, pending budget approval.

The job duties include:
• Plan and implement age appropriate activities; act as a classroom lead for staff questions, parent
communication, and classroom operations.
• Be responsible for and supervise a small group of children: infant, toddler and/or school age.
• Supervise the activities of student employees assigned to the classroom.
• Maintain daily classroom schedule including outside time, meals, naps, and scheduled breaks for monthly evacuation drills.
• Assisting children with hygiene including diapering and toilet use.
• Keeping areas clean and maintained according to Oregon State Childcare standards.
• Supervise children at all times while providing a positive and emotionally supportive environment.
• Maintain positive relationships with children, guardians and childcare staff.
• Complete 15 clock hours of childcare related training per year.
• Complete paperwork, trainings, and all other duties as assigned by Director or Assistant Director.
• Act as "substitute director" for both childcare centers, as needed, with training, including assisting with emergency drills.
• Train and supervise student employees.
• Check in with the Director weekly or as needed.

Minimum Qualifications from Classification
* An Associates degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development from a recognized program; OR
* A Child Development Associate ( CDA ) credential; OR
* A minimum of twenty semester hours (thirty quarter hours) of college courses in Early Childhood Education or Child Development; AND one year of experience in a certified day care center or comparable group care program; OR
* Two years of experience, including at least one year as a teacher, in a certified day care center or comparable group child care program.
Additional Minimum Qualifications for this Position
  • 20 credit hours education or related field or at least 1 year of experience in a licensed child care facility or school; designated as a "Teacher" through Oregon Learning Division's licensing standards.
  • Current CPR , First Aid, and Food Handler's certification or ability to obtain within 30 days.
  • Training for Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect or ability to obtain within 30 days.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Possess or obtain clearance through the Oregon Criminal History Registry
  • Be able to lift 40 pounds, kneel, bend, stoop, and sit on the floor in order to work at a child's level.
  • Enjoy working as a team member, being reliable, self-motivated and an independent worker.
