West Virginia University University Police Department of Potomac State College at WVU is currently accepting applications for (6) Temporary Part-time Campus Police Officers.
About the Opportunity
As a Temporary Part-time Campus Police Officer, you will work on an "as needed" basis. This will include weekends and to fill in for an absence of a full-time officer during the week. The shift for this position is 6:00 pm- 2:00 am.
You will be part of the University Police Department at Potomac State College of WVU and will report to the Major of the University Police. Work is typically performed with a certified officer until Field Training Program is completed and then calls are supported by certified officers.
PAY GRADE - 16

What you'll do:
- Enforce all federal, and state laws as well as campus rules and policies
- Patrol campus property both in a patrol vehicle and on foot.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- A minimum of (6-12) months experience involving:
- Dealing with the public or an equivalent combination of education, military, or completion of a law enforcement/criminal justice program will be accepted.
- Ability to read and write in English and perform basic mathematical calculations as would be required in the completion of technical reports and professional police operations.
- Experience in the following:
- Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels within the organization and the general public in a clear and professional manner.
- Current knowledge of federal and state laws relating to public safety and the ability to rapidly learn University and Department of Public Safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to accurately operate a firearm (preference given for prior experience).
- Ability to drive defensively (preference given for prior experience).
- Ability to use a police issued baton (preference given for prior experience).
- Must acquire and maintain a CPR certification (preference given for prior experience).
- Knowledge of and ability to perform defensive tactics to protect self and others (preference given for prior experience).
- Ability to react quickly in emergency situations (preference given for prior experience).
- Ability to subdue individuals under the influence of alcohol and drugs (preference given for prior experience).
- Physical capability to perform duties of position.
- Current knowledge of police practices and philosophies.
Certifications:
- Following hire, must qualify for, attend, and complete West Virginia Basic Law Enforcement Academy within one year. The academy requires the applicant to pass a physical examination and be within a certain height and weight range.
- Selected candidate(s) must successfully complete a pre-employment psychological evaluation before official hire date.
- Selected candidate(s) must successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination and be within a certain height and weight range per Police Academy requirements to be able to attend Academy
- Applicant must pass physical agility testing (PAT) prior to final offer. PAT standards are as follows:
- Sit-ups: 28 in one minute
- Push-ups: 18 in one minute
- Mile and half run: 14 minutes and 36 seconds
- Following hire, must qualify for, attend, and complete West Virginia Basic Law Enforcement Academy within one year. The academy requires the applicant to pass a physical examination and be within a certain height and weight range.
- Preference may be be give to already certified candidates.
- Must successfully pass the background check.
- Must be able to maintain law enforcement officer certification.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Selected candidate(s) must establish residency that is within one-hour response time to the WVU police station under normal driving conditions within 90 days of contingent offer before official hire date.
Physical Requirements:
- Daily: Standing, Walking, Carrying, and Bending.
- Weekly: Running, Jumping, and Climbing.
